so u need connect the oem to batterys and then to grid
is this what I need and how many or what is the go


Deep cycle batteries are often used in off-grid solar and wind power applications. Unlike a car battery, they are designed to be discharged to a greater depth and more often. The most common type of battery for deep cycle applications are AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat), Gel and Flooded

what sort to of batterys for oem turbine I have 3 or mite get another one to make 4
i havr had disaster recently been on phone to agl trying to get a meter connected every day for month
finally got them to send order to spaus net today 19 th and have 10 days to get meter

Battery Maintenance

Deep cycle batteries such as those used in solar power systems have much thicker lead plates to make them last longer. Deep cycle batteries should never really be discharged to below 20% of their full capacity, because internal resistance causes heat and damage when they are recharged. Renewable energy systems usually use a low-charge or low voltage warning light or a low-voltage cut-off switch to prevent the type of damage that will shorten the battery's life.

if I have 3 or 4 oem wind tubines they have a cut in speed at 2 m/sec which is pretty low wind
do u think battery would fall below 20 %
I will have turbines in a paddock and only see them every 2nd day at most
are these the batterys u need

will buy 12kw for expansion
the instructions in the box show how to erect tower as in the utube video
I have rung usa and emailed no response
i need to get accreditated wind mill installer only 1/2 dozen in victoria
to get the stc certificates the default value is 2000 hrs there is a calculator at whispering winds site taken from a uk site to see how many kw u produce
rec registry said the 2000 hrs is generous
they said to let the turbiine run for 12 mths then calculate watts so u get i stc certificate for 1 kw
I plan to install turbine at cora lynn victoria where winds off westernport bay
so this is way I could not get any one to help in victoria because oem are not mainstream
so I need to buy a battery bank so I need a shed to put them in
got to find out what cable to buy and distance to put turbines
I cannot find any person with knowledge to share with me in victoria
re grid tie inverter would a macsolar work if I can get a 12 kv or a power one
any advice on battery set up for these mills

I moved this over here because it seems you have not filled us in on the whole story,

Anyway , as I have said ... You need to be looking at Latronics PVE 1200 GTI , you can connect as many as you like to the battery bank and they are fairly cheap at times on ebay .
Battery voltage will not fall below 52.3V and this will keep the batterys in good condition .
These inverters a AS 4777 certified and are the lowest connect voltage GTI that allows wind /solar / hydro to be grid connected .
You will need a fairly large Battery bank if you are looking at 4 x 2 kW mills connected in and will also need a voltage control and dump load ... Also do not think because the mill is rated at 2kW it gives that 24/7 , I would think 500W would be a more reasonable quote .

The battery bank will need to be 48V and probably 200 ~ 300 A/hr at a quick guess because the batts are held at 90% it does not allow much for surge/ Gusts , this is why I run Ultra Caps in parallel with the batts. Edited by fillm 2012-12-20

Psst' "Can i have a quite word in your ear about asking for information on a forum", i know we all start somewhere on a forum, and i was unsure when i started too.

But mate! you need to break the questions down into clear questions and into posts one at a time or use different threads for each question area.

You ask a zillion different questions at a time and no one will offer advice in any area, if you ask a more single direct question and maybe several will offer advice in that area. (that dont mean 10 questions in a row)

Mate! you make our head spin with questions and nothing to work with, not even a photo of what parts you have.


Before we get into the next area of batteries, try saying "Hmmmm....mmmmm Hmmmm...mmmmm, breath, breath, and settle into getting your mind around the solution and understanding what you need one part at a time, it aint going to happen this side of Christmas, so chill out and work your way through this.

Previous question lost 10 pages back, you asked what GTI meant, the short answer is "Grid Tied Inverter"

Mabe you could even look or trial their TC 48 turbine controller CLICK HERE and here is a link to a inverter in ebay HERE .

You can special order the TC48 with a dump load connection I am sure

I know latronics inverters I just stuck 8 x 300 watt panels ontop of my sandwich panel house to a latronics pve2.5
can I use any inverter or do I have to use one that works with wind turbines
do u mean I can have many 1.2 kw inverters ? connected to battery
I would prefer to buy one big one as limited space

i live near the cbd in melbourne but thought I would install the turbine to pay the rates on my horses paddock or at least help

This is where a zillion questions get totally lost, because Phill is answereing one question and im replying to another.

You commented you had one controller and a magic purpose built resistor dump load.

Well again i will inform you you dont have what you need, you should have a controller and dump load magic resistor module for EACH mill NOT one for all 3 mills.

The controller was designed to monitor and control a single mill not what ever you choose to add to it.

No, not like that. A 300a/hr battery can supply 300 amps for 1 hour, or 1 amp for 300 hours, or 2 amps for 150 hours, etc. In reality its not that simple, but it gives you an idea.

Due to the fact you have downwind mills how do you intend to control them without electronic braking, as they have no manual furling.

Then how do you intend to control the voltage to the batteries, what system do you intend to use here for each mill.

More questions that need answers.

each turbine I got has a controller and a tin box labeled resisitor
so in a shed i would have the 3 controller and 3 resistors and battery bank and
? do u have to have a wind capable inverter like latronics as biggest is only 2.5 max 3100 kw or can I use any grid tie inverter
I have found macsolar to be cheap and good

Just to put you in the picture, if you had 3 x mills dumping 1000 watts thats 3kwh of heat no matter which way you look at it,

Example ... 30 x 100 watt light globes or the element in your oven (which may be less by 1/3) either way its a sh*t lot of heat to deal with.

in the box I have chinees controller and a green tin box resistor for each turbine
one of the turbines and only one has a kill switch attached to the rotor

? on the wind farms they have 100s of turbine ???
yes I see it would get hot
would u have a some way of dispersing the heat / ventilation

The kill switch is outside my design involvement with OEM, so im unsure on that model.

because of the heat are u saying I should have a few inverters instead of all the heat coming into one inverter
