Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Ok Guru's with out going into too much detail , I am stacking 5 F & P onto one central drive with a custom rotor using 1/2 thick Neo mags , I need to know the best magnet

Hi

You need to use the same number of magnets as the original F&P, or it becomes very complicated. The F&P is a 3 phase machine, and the magent to pole ratio reflects that. If you change this ratio, you can end up with a different number of phases, whick means you need to reconfigure the stator to suit.

See the story about the 7 phase configuration...

A few of the forum members have used neo magnets with mixed results. There is a gain, but not as much as you would expect, the limiting factor is the F&P stator, not the magnet strength. The stator is easily saturated, so stronger magnets will only give a small gain in output power even if the magnets are several times stronger than the originals. Better results have been obtained using the original magnets hub and adding capacitors, MPPT, etc.

This is the stator we are using it is LG , I am not worried about saturation because it will get sucked off pretty fast but I will down size the mags. Lg are every where in Panama.

Interesting ,, You speak about F&P , but your last post shows an LG . I have a few LG stators and rotors ,ready to play with .I like them .

I reckon they are much stronger than F&P in all respects . Being "tied" up in other progressing projects ,the LG gear has been shelved.

I'll watch this (your) project and help, if I can .

Sorry , I can't help on the F&P ,I've sort of "moved on" from them ..

Bruce < I did speak of the F & P , but reading these Blogs I took the F & P as people ues the term Kleenex , we all dont buy the Kleenex brand but we all know what it means. Are you saying my L G are better than the F & P ? This forum is GREAT , I trying to make this thing a plug and play item. with mulitple redundant stators.

Thanks
Marty

i don't want to dampen your enthusiasm one bit.
building something beautiful on the beach that makes power is a noble endeaver.
but you may end up going big and going home, disappointed
i think your setting yourself up for failure.
your adamant on using a vague, untested sail wing design.
mated to five modified alternators?

do you know how many watts you need?
you need to figure out how big a swept area is required taking into account the efficiency of the windmill and the alternator
with this cell phone tower only work when the wind is blowing?
you may want to investigate the term saturation in iron cored alternators and rethink the neo mags
also the term cogging
and..

I know I am out of my league on the stator design , but hea what the hell. Now for the VAWT that is not out of my league , Sail design and implementation , and gearing is in the blood literally. My 88 year old father world renowned hydraulics and transmission expert. The Kennedy space shuttle doors , The space needle revolving restaurant.

I will give it a try and post all failures and accomplishments

that sounds excellent and shows the attitude required for success.
there is no magic to windmills
more or bigger is usually good, once you know what works for sure ,
