Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

i

i have a 250 watts scooter motor that i want to use to build a vertical windmill
or turbine

at the moment i have a few weeks the facility's to make something out of wood and this 250watt motor that i can use as a generator
its 24 volts

now i need to now how big need this vertical turbine to be for the 250watt of the motor?

250watt = XX energy = xx size?

i want to figure this out this weekend and then start this week ( because of the limited time i have the facilitys to my displosal )

so if anyone can direct me to the right info this would be great!

Hello LGO46 and welcome to the forum.

You will need to spin the motor with a lath, drill press, or maybe just a big drill to see what speed it will start makeing 24 volt. If it takes alot of rpm to reach this, then a VAWT mill will more than likely not work for you.
What is you'r average wind speed? (another big determineing factor), because you will need some good clean wind to run one and still expect to get a satisfing output.
I would encourage you to do lots of reading on this subject "before" starting the building process.
If you are located in the country I would suggest that you build a HAWT, much simpler and a proven preformer. Many who build a VAWT are disappointed with the poor output.

Mac46 PS; There are several authors and builds on this site of both types.
