Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

An article appeared in "The Australian" on a weekend some time back by a critic with the name of James Delingpole which listed some interesting figures:

1. A 3MW turbine generates at most $150,000 worth of electricity p.a. and is guaranteed a subsidy of $500,000 per annum.

2. Each turbine costs about $3 mio. and we need about 10,000 of them to meet carbon reduction quotas at a total cost of $30 billion without power lines.

3. The subsidy is called the REC (Renewable Energy Certificates) subsidy.

4. The owners on whose land the turbines are located are subject to rigorous gagging orders.

He then carried on with health issues and I have heard of them before, they have something to do with the infrasound emissions from the turbines. He also mentions a few political issues I am not going to present to this forum, such as who is investing in wind farms. What is not in dispute is that we are going to pay for it.

As far as I know we cannot claim such a subsidy if we are building our own mills.

There was RAPS that would give you funding but not for a home built system. I believe it closed a few years ago.

The Victorian State Government have now spat the dummy and are doing everything possible to discourage any new private wind turbines.

Watch out!
The Baillieu wind police will now have their eye upon you.
