Hi can anyone explain to me the wiring diagram for the star configuration that involves 6 wires. There are photos on the site for the delta wiring on a 42 pole stator, but the brief says it can also be a star configuration and below a photo of two wiring diagrams, one of delta and one of star.

i just dont have a clue how to read these ! I have got my head around the 3 wire option (the photos are very very good) but the 6 wire star sounded as though it might be a bit more useful.

If anyone is keen to help or can point me towards a good book on wiring diagrams then i would be very much indebted...........

Hi AlSpong

The 6 wire option lets you easily configure the stator for star or delta. Instead of permanently connecting the phases into a star, or delta, you instead end up with 3 separated phases ( 2 wires per phase ), making it easier to configure the stator for star or delta. This come in handy if you want to experiment, or use a star/delta switching circuit.

Wire up the 6 wires as the diagram further down the page (http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/FPRewire.asp) explains.

Glad to hear you worked it out. Once you start experimenting, it will start to make more sense.
