Can anyone tell me what kind of a load is the generator looking at when hooked to a battery?Does it depend on how much the battery discharged? My wind little 125 watt Generator puts out 12 to 14 volts with no load, but only 3 or 4 volts with almost any load I put on it 17 or 40 watts. I guess what I'm trying to say will it be worth it to connect to my battery. |

Think about your question for a bit Eddie. A battery (12V type) has about 12.6V at the terminals when fully charged, somewhat less if discharged a bit. Now if you connect it to your wind generator (which puts out DC I hope) then nothing happens - the wind generator sees no load - until the generator's voltage rises to the battery charging voltage - around 13.6V. At this stage the load on the generator is the charging current the battery can accept. Connecting a resistive load - which loads the generator from zero RPM up - is vastly different than connecting a battery. Food for thought, eh? Klaus |

Thanks Klaus.I was not sure if it worked that way or not.My generatur is dc.its mainly for back up for my 60 watt solar panel.I'm going to hook it across the battery without a controller because I get so little usable wind here. I've ordered a 30 watt panel to add to my system as I found out I was a little under powered for what I needed, mainly for emergency communitions, light and a cooler that uses about 3.5 amps. |

Klaus is spot on. Its a bit like the clutch in a car, it lets you get the engine ( the turbine ) up to speed so its making power, before applying a load. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

That's really good to know.I was worried my wind gen was not up to the job.I've got one more question that I'll post later when get more time and deside how write it properly. |
