Interesting concept being re-examined. This was brought up in another site WindEmpowerment web site. With a link too makanipower.com Here is a video Makani Power I have seen a similar approach about 30 yrs ago. There were many problems pertaining to wind direction and consistency controlling the wing / kite. I am in favor of using the science of today to enhance the components being driven by the power of the wind, they have many design's of working vawt's / hawt's that are proven and working. It's what happens after the transfer of the power from the wind that needs redesigning to gain the most output from any unit. Regards Robert. MrDelanco:Project Videos It is not only too know what it does but to understand how it does what it does. |

Hi Robert I remember a project like this 40 years ago here in Australia, unfortunately it was vetoed by the government of the time, because it was seen as a hazard to aviation, there where several smaller ones for coastal winds but they where not able to stay up due to varying wind velocity. I have thought about building a winch type system with a kite to pull up on the it and drive a generator. A airfoil shaped parachute would provide heaps of lift, just have to work out how to get it to cycle up and down. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |
