Hi All Just worked out how to do the youtube thing , I shot a bit of footage of my Mills and the logging & Control Box last week when I had some OK wind . Anyway the link is HERE to have a look. The noise in the controll box is the fans on the grid inverters and solar MPPT controller, the graph on the screen is export power from the 2 PVE1200 inverters that is logged via the Envir with a program that Gordon created, not power used. Hi phill Very impressive mate, overall that's really a worthwhile power push, Looking at the furling though it seems to be a bit early and reducing the power potential. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

fillm Furling question: What is the little tail off-set for at the very back of the tail I see in the Youtube video? My assumption is, since it is at the most-levered end of the tail feathers, it has the most influence on the direction things are headed. Is it there to override the mill's natural tendency to head upwind due to torque? Also, you mention having a hydraulic dampner, but I can't find it in the Youtube shots. Maybe you could post a close-up shot sometime. I use a standard furling tail on my little toys, but the tail feathers go straight out the back and aren't cocked to one side like yours seem to be. Heck, my stuff is so small, it probably doesn't need any dampening in reality, but I like to build it in so as not to lead someone else down the wrong trail. I'd be interested in some close-up shots of your mills and some detailed information regarding their form and function if you've got the time sometime. I'm in the middle of building an "off the shelf" axial-flux alternator in an effort to level the playing field and get more people involved in building this stuff. I'm trying to use nothing fancier than a drill press for this project. In reality, I used my lathe for some stuff, but I've figured out ways around that for folks who don't have any fancy machinery. I'll post that build in the next few weeks as I'm 100% retired now and have all the time in the world to play in my shop. Thanks. . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! Indeed great stuff, such a pity you dont have better wind Phill! Solar cracking along better now with the MPPT? Luck favours the well prepared |

Thanks for the comments , the youtube thing is a good way to show whats going on , I think I will be useing it a bit more in the future. Mac, if you search my previous posts I show the dampner in a thread I did Ax300-2 late last year. I don't think it would be suitable for the smaller gens but thats up to you. Here's the LINK to that thread. You are welcome anytime Jimbo, and the MPPT on the solar has picked up efficeincy from 15 ~ 25% depending on the time of day & panel Temp , the big winner is the conversion on the electric hot water to solar , I should have done that years ago and I can remember back to you making the comment Karl , that a 1 kW grid feed would hardly keep up with a electric hot water system , Too True.. Karl You should sent some of your (farm) wind over to Phills for awhile, just for awhile that is? Jim |
