I went up to Perth the other day and one of the big advert signs on the Forrest H'way had some new additions |

That is what I have been saying for a long time here in the USA If it is above the tree line have it make power with a VAWT or HAWT. Bob Mann |

Clever thinking, it would also attract more attention to the sign. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

it does grab attention .... but it gives micro wind a bad name ...those hawts are going to be tortured by turbulance and con people into thinking that their feasible in a situation like that.. windmill,s used as a cheap trick for advertising insurance ... niall |

Yes , just another con by advertising company to grab the eye of the passing people and to add atouch of GREEN to the company on the board . I doubt they would even be connected to assist in powering the lights , no solar panels as a dual supply, which would indicate a full off grid lighting system . The 8 lights could easily consume 10Kw/H+ a night as they do seem to be the latest LED street lights . If they were serious , I would think one big 5Kw HAWT mounted on the top as well as a 2Kw solar array would be required for the lighting requirements . Hello there trying to do some thing it needs about 4 to 6 Verticals Axle Wind Turbine on the top. I would light it up like a cristmas tree with my units and sell it back to boot. Wth the right VAWT you could add some color or sell space on the blades. Just think you happy face on the blades waving back to all your voters as it spins. This one when it spins the bird look like they are flying my wife did it. Bob Mann |

There is a company in Western Australia named Harvey Norman which employs advertisements that shout at you. I have my remote control at the ready whenever it appeared. I am not just referring to the billboard. It is annoying. Waste not... |

Drove past yesterday, mills gone and replaced with 5 large cartoon like vultures sitting on top of the sign. The sign has changed too, would have been apt with the insurance add |

Good morning, Turnymf, It is rather clever to associate the vultures with the fact that "you are at risk...". Personally, I believe that large signs or objects that may take your attention away from driving is not good for road safety. Bob is now coping a bit of flakes from other forum members for overly estimated his mills' performance. Sometimes it is best to do things gently to allow others to slowly come along rather than shouting at them, just like Harvey Norman stores. Have a nice day. Waste not... |

Please show were the math is wrong. Fact I can make power in low wind and up to 60+ MPH with my design. A true Survivor of Hurricane Irene. Most small and large turbines shut down at the 25 MPH marker mine did not. I still stand behind my power charts. Here is Bob from Down Unders tests using the LG setup close to my setup but I am using a 60,s stator are we both wrong?? Hi All I did some torque measurements on the LG this morning and here are the results. Delta only tested. 1. 40 rpm 3.00 ft lbs 18 watts Volts: 18 2. 52 rpm 3.40 ft lbs 28.8 watts Volts: 24 3. 67 rpm 4.00 ft lbs 46.5 watts Volts: 31 4. 80 rpm 4.80 ft lbs 70 watts Volts: 40 5. 113 rpm 5.50 ft lbs 100 watts Volts: 50 6. 147 rpm 6.80 ft lbs 140.8 watts Volts: 64 7. 190 rpm 8.00 ft lbs 200 watts Volts: 80 8. 247 rpm 9.80 ft lbs 323.2 watts Volts: 101 9. 320 rpm 12.20 ft lbs 562.5 watts Volts: 125 10. 415 rpm 14.60 ft lbs 722 watts Volts: 152 11. 540 rpm 16.20 ft lbs 1038 watts Volts: 185 12. 700 rpm 17.80 ft lbs 1342 watts Volts: 220 Cogging torque was 1.5 ft lbs 1. .0228 HP Input 2. .0349 HP Input 3. .0510 HP Input 4. .0731 HP Input 5. .1183 HP Input 6. .1903 HP Input 7. .2894 HP Input 8. .4608 HP Input 9. .7433 HP Input 10. 1.1536 HP Input 11. 1.6656 HP Input 12. 3.3724 HP Input Cogging . 0005 HP to overcome It would have been nice to have a more even spread on the rpm readings but that is what the lathe is so am stuck with that, I would have likes to do a reading every 25 rpm but no such luck. Hello Bob, I liked and admired your enthusiasm in building a better mill. I am not a learned electrical engineer nor a mechanical engineer. I am here following this forum because it is interesting and, above all, has enthusiastic person like yourself to push me along the path of renewable energy. To date I have not even completed a mill. I have wooden propellers, wired up F&P mills and a mill housing based on Fillm's design. It is persons like Gizmo and Fillm who so generously donated their designs and ideas to be freely available to us simple persons that makes me want to join this forum. I don't really want to buy a mill because part of the fun is experiment and learn from others, and hopefully be able to contribute to forum one day, if and when I think I have anything worthwhile to give. Gizmo and Fillm have had many clever and ingenious designs and builds as shown in the forum. I have not seen them pushing their wares like Harvery Norman did. If I find their wares are good for my needs and I cannot build one myself, I will certainly be taking the initiative to ask if they want to sell one to me. My understanding is that sometimes it cost them a hell of a lot more to build to make it a viable business. Waste not... |
