Hi,
First off I should mention I have never owned or built any wind generator of any kind before so I am and will be kind of winging it here ;-)
I have acquired this generator unit and can not find any markings to give me a clue as to the make or model ... (see attached photos)
I am making the assumption that it is a unit made by a manufacturer rather than a home built unit because of the cast blade mount, the roller shaft bearings, the fact it is galvanized and as a side issue is bloody heavy as it is built like a brick sh*thouse!
The blade mount casting is very substantial and from the size of it I would imagine the overall diameter of the blades will be somewhere around 2 metres or more but thats just a guess on my part.
I am hoping someone out there might recognize it and can give me as much info as possible about it.
I plan to thoroughly clean and rebuild it.
Also taking a wild guess that I will have to make myself a new set of blades as well.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
My location is Waitakaruru (New Zealand) which is rated as a high wind zone although I consider it as a consistant breeze myself (yep I'm used to it) and from what I can find out I reckon it blows around 10 to 15 kilometers two thirds of the year and we get some shocking high wind bursts through the winter months ...
Photos show the unit stripped as I got it today (June 20, 2011). The guts are a bit grotty but generally look ok and show no signs of wear or damage at all.

Hi nishka
It looks like a early Chinese 500 watt model 3 phase possibly 24 volt, I have a bit later version but very similar, they are a high speed unit so should suit your wind speeds.
You can buy a blade and hub set for it on ebay about $350 I think.
Give it a good clean up and bake the windings in a low oven 120 C overnight to dry it out.
All the best
Bob

The windings and design do look similar to the first Jaycar model out of China, but they had a plastic housing, not metal.
Replace the bearings, the Chinese ones jam up and then cause something else to fail too.
