Hi all !My first post.
I am living in central France and have ordered a used 100 series motor. I am planning on building a genny to power intially my house lighting (mostly low energy compact FL)
Later I will add a pv panel as we get usefull amounts of sun here. We get a lot of low wind speed days so I am hoping to reduce cogging to a minimum to aid starting.
I have read about the new F&P hub, but with the cost of shipping here Is it better to put in new neos ?
I would appeciate your suggestions on :
1. 12v or 24v with the 100 series
2. Suggested rewiring schemes for above
3. Suggested blade diameter for low winds

ill give you some generic information that i have, other more experienced people will be able to add or correct.

most go for the 12v conversion since its already written on this site and for charging batteries.
to rewire to a "12v" set up click here.
a good wind blade length is about 1 metre, giving diametre, including hub, of about 2.2 metres.
this is a compromise between power extraction from the wind and rpm speed.
the longer your blades, the more power they will be able to extract from the wind, but that will slow them down.
if your blades are shorter you will have more rpm.

Hey Bernie.

Dennis Latham has done a lot of testing with the 100 series stator, and the best all rounder he found was a surprise. A 100 wired in delta, with a five blade turbine using well made timber blades gave the best over performance compared to all other configurations. If you can wait a few days, I can get Dennis to post his findings.
