I've re-configured the windings on 4 stators of different wire sizes.- I'm interested in the 6 pole at this point of time as wind here is very slight. But one I configured to 7-2 pole in the .8 mm wire . It seems to be way down on volts compared to the 6 pole configurations. Bruce Bushboy |

Hey Bruce My 7p2p conversion on 0.8mm wire is charging a 12v battery at a lower RPM than the old SP configures 0.6mm stator it replaced. Even though the 0.6mm stator has more turns per pole, the new 7p2p stator has a higher output voltage per rpm because the stator is not decoged, and 7 phase power has a higher output voltage than 3 phase. Its working a treat, seams like its always going now where before it spent most of the day doing nothing. In fact I ordered a new 48 pole hub yesterday for the Lenz windmill, should be here middle of next week. Have you tried one on your windmill yet. With your belt drive it will start a lot easier! You could even try that 3:1 ratio again. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Glenn, Haven't tried it yet- No wind here anyhow-- But I'm hoping to try all of them as wind gets up . I'm off to Perth next week ,so will bring the mill down and store all the stuff away for a while . Good to see you are at last getting some enjoyment out of watching your mill charging --I'm getting very frustrated with our wind conditions here--seems like the whole weather pattern is changing fast. I perservere with it though-can't just give up after more than ten years. Bruce Bushboy |

OK, I must be missing something, but I dont understand how you can be increasing the number of phases unless you are also changing the number of poles on the rotor? |

Not changing the number of poles, changing the number of magnets. The old hub had 56 magnets, on the stator this meant a magnet and pole were lined up every 3 poles around the stator. The new hub has 48 magnets, and on the stator this means a magnet and pole line up every 7 poles around the stator. So we end up with 7 phase power. The result is smoother/less cogging rotation, and slightly more power. The down side is we need to rewire the stator into 7 phase. Thanks Glenn, that makes sense even to me! |

Hey bruce you should try a small vertical, like a darrius or Lenz. My place is like your, on the wrong side of a hill. I only get clean winds from the north in summer, but during winter they come over from behind the hill. My verticals are always going, even in winter where the wind direction changes every few minutes. When you get back from Perth build yourself a small vertical, just something free wheeling. It got me hooked on verticals Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Glenn, I'll be doing that --have collected some steel ribs that are curved and they look a bit like yours but not semi-circular at the ends ,sort of only curved ,but still quite a bit . Looks like Nell had a hard day at the office --lol. Bruce Bushboy |

Hi Have got a new F&P rotor hub, have a spare 0.8mm stator to rewind to 7 phase. Do I just follow the plans in the project section or have you found a better way? |

Hey RifRaf As far as I know thats still the one to follow. Take it one phase at a time, think about the wiring, and it will come together. Let us know how you go. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Ok this is an attempt at following the 7P2P instructions, no testing just yet, won't know till then if its right or wrong. http://eds.dyndns.org:81/~rifraf/windmill/7p2p.jpg |
