Crew It's only a matter of less than a month until I'll have my shop back. Still, I couldn't just sit idly by with no wind spinner to watch. So . . . I cannibalized the remains of an old contraption and by adding three FREE paint-stir sticks from Home Depot, I hammered together a small spinner just to keep me from going completely nuts on the home stretch of this adventure (divorce). It's WAY out of balance, but it might be fun to see it hurl a blade in a strong wind, so I'll just leave it alone for a few days and watch what happens!

Update The shop is built and most of my "to-do" list items are taken care of, so I've started building a new windmill. I've gone back to basics for this one. It pumps air. The reason I've chosen this design is two fold. First, I need a silent air compressor to drive all the little air engine toys I'm building for my 4-year-old grandson. Second, the build features "off-the-shelf" stuff that doesn't require much in the way of "machining". Instead of a blow-by-blow build, on this one I'm waiting until the project is finished and then I'll do a bunch of tight shots along with explanations, so everyone can get an idea of how to build their own, should they choose to do so. I should mention that this build incorporates a rather fancy transmission, which changes the spinning windmill shaft into a back-and-forth action for the dual-action piston pump. I did have my nephew professionally weld the chassis for this build, but I will explain how to do it without such a fancy feature. Along with its being welded, I'm bolting things together to show how it could be done without a heli-arc welder. Talk about strong; this little thing should be bullet proof! Anyway, as soon as it's flying, I'll be back to post the build. I'm building a furling tail just for kicks. The Coroflute blades are already built and they dig into the wind at 40*, so I doubt there will be much "furling" no matter how hard she blows! Edit: Added hot link. . . . . .
