Built myself a new turbine from 2 old 24 volt motors, just got it up and running, havent cabled it up properly or fixed it up to an amp meter , just trying to get to grips with building towers first , this one is only about 25 feet tall but I am going to extend it to 35 feet this weekend and get some proper cable hopefully I can post some figures up.

I have no real long term experience at this but I am learning pretty quick, hopefully it will give some people that have been thinking about making there own turbines a bit of a push!!

Peace

Hi Gavin

Interesting design. Does the connecting bar between the two turbines rotate to face the wind, or is it fixed?

The whole top assemble is resting on the main pole and the whole thing rotates , both motors dont quite face the wind as bang on as I would like , I am taking it down this weekend and will make sure the tails are at a perfect 90 degrees to the front face , but the whole thing does move.

Hi Gavin,
I'm very interested in your work so far, putting 2 heads on a common beam.Do the heads also rotate like the beam does? And have you noticed they stabilise quickly to face into the wind,or do they move almost continually?I've been researching a similar concept for a bit more than a year. The scale is larger but would be prone to similar reactions to your biuld.I hope you don't mind me asking wether you considered putting the tail at the beams centre instead of the heads if they are fixed.Your results will help me with my plans. The tails work really well as they are, or were we had alot of rain whch messed up one of the footings, when i raised it last it fell over and smashed itself in , I have replaced it with an axial flux turbine but will re visit this project again , I would suggest putting the tails on the outside as I have done, it works really well , no vibration at all straight into the wind, when its really windy it seems to "bob" between the 2 but stilll sustaining high rpm from both motors.
