Hi Member Last year i brought a Phill Wind turbine and done a lot of modifications over the last few months including adding a 7metre long 75x75 RHS which has been lying on the ground for several years now. The tower is 13 metres high fitting with 6 guy cables and has been painted like army camouflage so my brown-nose local council dept wont see the tower i hope. 
Changes have been made to the tail and pivot by welding bronze and machining into bronze shaft plus adding two “O” rings to keep the grease inside of the pivot shaft. Stater had a lovely bath of varnish paint done by an electric motor repairer and the blades which all had plastics fittings were thrown into the bin so i used my handmade 3mm alloy plate with longer self-taped screw and glue and large head pop rivets except using top plumbing cap can be brought from local hardware. I replaced the Japanese made bearings plus added 250 ml of special oil to assist the copper wiring heating transfer to stater housing less damage to copper wiring. The oil was inside the stater for nearly 3 months. There has been no fails or damage and got wind turbine up after waiting for the rain to stop since November until after the Murphy’s Creek Flood. However, I am not happy with the top pole of the tower which is 1.2 metres with a diameter of 50 mm tube becomes too flexible at high winds so i have to replace it with a 60 mm heavy wall tube next week. I've never heard of a oil cooled domestic wind turbine before, but I think in this case its a good idea. The alternators are enclosed and sealed, so the oil should stay in there, and it will run much cooler. Keep us posted on how it goes. Hi Ian, Nice work, putting it up the extra height into the wind, it will make a big difference and the camo pole looks great. I see you kept with your idea of using special auto transmision oil to cool if needed , I would think it would add extra drag between the magnets and stator fingers, but time will tell. The Alu winglet end caps look good ,I don't konw if they will extract any extra watts from the wind but they should make balancing easier. Anyway its up and producing power that is the main thing , and hopfully the rain will give us a break . Hope you and your famly were OK out there, as you must be fairly close to Murphys Ck . Hi Ian Looks really neat will be interested to see how the oil goes in the machine, nice job on the blade ends as well. I had the same problem with the pipe but what I did was to weld the attach points for the guy cables to just slightly above the blade swing so there isnt so much overhang on the pipe all good so far, but yours is 1.5 meters higher than mine. Hi ian Just a couple of photos of the guy position that shortens the bending moment on the top pipe. 
Prior to getting the furling going it did bow a bit but now it has withstood several storms without problems, blade dia 2.8 meter. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Hey all I'll post some more photos soon and I’m very happy to hear that you's all like my windmill toy. I put a lot of hard work on it on my lathe to do the testing on the stator running on heavy load around 400 to 700 watts for hours before stator got hot enough to put my hands on however soon i pulled the stator cover off found out those copper wire inside was ever much hotter and the heat had no where to delepet and thats the reason i add small mount approx 200 ml special auto electronic transmission oil so heat can transfers to the housing as extra benefit in cooling the coil down without burning the enamels off. theres no torque affect all same with neo manget’s glue after sitting in the shed waiting for rain to stop since November last year.Anyway windmill will be up running next week

Ian, I like your idea of using oil inside generator.The unit I have developed rust from condensation,which after dismantling cleaning and resealing covers has again seized up.The cooling holes suggested by Philm,I thought would only increase the problem. What type of oil have you used,and how much for the gold plating. Anthony. Hi Anthony I have mine fitted with holes and it went through all the big wet 24 inches + we had here in SE Queensland over three weeks without any trouble. It is coated inside with Hi temp enamel paint and a liberal greasing of the poles magnets and windings before I put it up. I did re machine the stator as it was a bit out of round, so that gave it a bit more clearance. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Hi Anthony The oil is same as your ford if has auto tranny Castrol TQ95 and gold plate from from my ex wife wedding ring
