PLEASE DO NOT SAY WINDMILL...

Hi all, I was given a mill from a bloke up the road I do not know what make it is or anything about it. All I know is it is 24 volt and around 500-550 watts. It has been up for a few months and is going well. It is ment to have a white noise cone but I have not had time to put it on yet..

Technically I think its called a "wind turbine".

Are the blades extruded fiberglass? It might be a Chinese copy of a Bergey.

Hi Andrew

Thats the same as the 500 watt one I have got, it may be a bit later if it has slip rings in it.
Mine had a nose cone but was so far out of balance it shook off. Not the original blades as they where useless. Should work well at your place, not good for low wind speeds.

All the best

Thanks Bob, It does have slip rings and the blades are a bit out as it does shake at a around 200 rpm a bit. I need to take the hub and blades down to do a little fine tuning and balance the lot.

As for the blades they work well in my location as there is no light wind here much. It does start up well and I have seen around 19-20 amp at 27.7 volt and it furls nicely too. It does seam to hunt the wind abit and flip around a bit I think a bigger surface in the tail and the same weight as what is there now would help.

I have seen it hit by some big winds here and it keeps plodding along so even if I am not getting 2000 watts out of it, it is still going.

Hi Andrew

I think fence posts would work at your location, it is the later version if it has slip rings, mine is locked up on the furling at the moment as the bushes in the housing chopped out. I put the bigger tail on mine to stop the whipping around, now it is very stable. it goes to fifty amps at times on gusts but don't think it would keep that up like at your place, I think it would handle 30 amps OK.

It needs a lot more speed than the little OEM but when it comes on song its great.
I have a 2.5 meter blade set rated at 1 KW on it.

All the best

Hi,, I'm fairly sure it's an "EXMORK" ,, google this word and u can read all about every different model-there is a link to the Exmork forum there also ..

You will find more stories about these on the forum "Fieldlines" ..

I have the bigger version and I must say it's very strongly built..

Hi All

Well another one bites the dust. This one went for all most four months and after a bit of wind it's not working. I have not had time to pull it down yet but will find out what when wrong.

Hi Andrew

My friend had one and the brushes stuck and burnt the slip rings a bit and it stopped working, check it for continuity up the wires if the wind gives you a chance.

All the best

If it is the slip rings, I have the 200w version without slip rings and every now and then I disconnect the drop wire near tower base and unwind, have been doing so for 4 odd years. A bit of an inconvenience but it works. The PMA seems to be indestructable but a bloody pain to tilt up on tower because of weight. Would love to source a few(500w version) up here in NQ.

Hi Vic

I have a piece of marine bungee on the tail of mine and it can go a couple of turn in each direction before the bungee brings it back.

Looks a bit crude but it works.
