I have a drive axle from a elec scooter with 24 volt dc motor. the axle has a 10to1 racio. It takes about 2 pounds of pressure on a 8" tire to turn it over. Do you think 4' blades would turn it. 8" over all. Thanks Joe Joe |

Hi Joe It depends on how much wind you have I guess. I did play around with those scoota motors a few years ago, direct drive 1:1, and had very poor results. 10:1 might be different, if you have enough wind to get over the starting torque of a step up drive. Could be a fun project. Dont expect too much from it though. Maybe 150 watts max. And the brushes will wear out within 6 to 12 months. A better DC motor to use is a treadmill motor, the permanent magnet types, usually rated at 120 volts and 1 to 2kw.
