Hello,
anyone...... I have been looking for the smart drives here in the states bo let me tell u cant be found here where I live. i bet i looked at over 200 machine i havent found one yet.

Are they visable with the cabinet on? Or do you have to extract the tube from the cabinet. Oh yeah another thing is the case to the drive metal or plastic?

As a UK guy I was more stupid . It took me several days of reading this site to find what an F & P was.

Do you need one? As a guy who spent most of his life working for Philips (admittedly not the washing m/c bit that became Whirlpool ) I don't remember any breakthroughs in washing m/c motors ( there were advances right enough , a lot of the motor one's made by Philips ) and you'll probably find there are US and UK and Italian brands that use something similar. They certainly incorporate some pretty smart motor technology.

The question then is do you need one of those ? looking at the excellent electrical knowledge on this site I'd say you were better off building your own generator than using an F & P. There's a wealth of very good info. on building your own from scratch , IMO ,on this site.

Big Al,LG washing machines have a similar configuration.

Big al,
How much would you have to get out of it?
I did learn that a kohler small engine does have a stator simular to a smart drive but its about 6" diameter @25 amps for about $48.00 + shpand handling and i would have to fab up some sort of cover for the magnets. Good Idea or not? i know this is the place to be if you want to do it everyone here is great and knowable just check other ideas before i get to far into the project.

Hi GJK2010

Real easy to ID a smart drive machine. Most of them have the words "smart drive" written somewhere on the top control panel. Another way is to tip the machine on to its side and you should be able to see the magnet hub right at the very bottom. Some do however have a tin plate on the bottom of the housing that needs to be pried off first. Happy hunting

A lot of LG washing machines, top load and front load, are now using permanent magnet motors similar to the F&P. A quick look at the motor will soon verify that (direct drive no belts and it has magnets). Look in scrap metal yards, garbage dumps, and even on the areas known for people dumping rubbish.

Hi , I`m new to the wind gen world , I have a F/P motor to rewire and have the plans for it , what I need to know is if I rewire it to the specs on back shed star wound would it be ok for 24 volt or do I need to rewire differently ? Thanks for any info .

Our fine Host Gizzmo,Glenn He is the MAN.He will be able to give you the direction you are wanting. Most all voltages are avable for the F&P motor. some-one here will have the answer you are looking for. They might want a bit more info, to be able to give the best advice.

Thanks for your reply wind pirate , I will look around th eforum and also ask Gizmo for advice.
Looking forward to my first attemp at this and hoping to make an upright model as the wind around here is very turbulent , even water mills swing around like crazy .
Great site and looking forward to sharing trials and tribulations with members .
