Hello, I'm new to the forum. Since so many people in recent years are passionate about alternative energy, especially wind energy prodatta. For all these people who want to try their hand at building small homemade wind turbines, helping to dispel all the many uncertainties and many doubts, I suggest that my speech to share with you my experience so that it can be useful to all. I built a horizontal axis wind turbine with 2 ml kWp. 3.80 in diameter with neodymium magnets alternator 30x50 16 +16 N Grade 42 and 12 coils of 75 turns with wire Ø 1.80 mm. The stator is star connected and the system is 48 Volt Here are the photos: The Blade The iron frame The stator Rotors The alternator assembly The electrical collector Balancing blades The final position Un primo assaggio 52 Volt 20A oltre 1KW In Annex I attach my whole project with Autocad At this link: http://energiaalternativa.forumcommunity.net/?t=30116645 you will find a precent my realization. Forgive my bad English, I write from Italy with the help do google translator. Un Saluto un "tutti":) SpitsFire Rar file IPSA SCIENTIA POTESTAS EST (bacone) |

Welcome to the forum Spitsfire, Well done, thats a very neat job with all the components that make up your Ax Fx, keep us informed of how it is performing as there is now a lot of intrest in these here . It appears to be along the lines of a Hugh Piggot design and looks great, as does all your photos of the various stages of the build. Hi SpitsFire Nice windmill Do you have the Autcad files as a ZIP? Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hi Spitsfire Thank you for your presentation, it is a very good machine and very encouraging for me as I am slowly getting the parts together for one myself. Thank You All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Welcome Spitsfire Thats one NICE mill you have there my friend, job well done. Now all you have to do is get that bad boy up in the clean air. If possiable keep us informed on the KWH production. Mother nature awaits you? Jim |

SpitsFire Yikes! That's the coolest build I've seen in a long time. I build toys and my hat's off to anyone that can do as nice a job of building and presenting a project as you have. I'll stand in line with the rest of the crew awaiting production figures. Great job; thanks for sharing. . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! Hi, thank you all for the compliments, you have encouraged me to do even better. In short, I will publish a movie on youtube to demonstrate the efficiency. Greetings to all Spitfire IPSA SCIENTIA POTESTAS EST (bacone) |

Hi Spitsfire, Nice presentation, of a traditional Axial Flux build windmill. This seems to be a nice stall limited mill, given the amount of magnet and wire that you have used. The large rotor should provide good energy harvest in modest winds. I could not employ this build method on my own AxFx mill, due to local conditions. I presented pics a while ago, and I had similar power with 9coils of 75turns each, with only 12magnets. Council restrictions and local wind conditions play a big part in what we end up with in a design. The efficiency of these designs is not really disputed anymore. I know that traditional rating methods rate efficiency at maximum power as 50%. I believe that these windmills should be more conservately rated, with lower max power levels for a given amount of materials. I have seen many horror stories of stator burnouts when these designs are pushed to higher unsustainable power levels. You have not given any stator coil resistance values but I would expect that your alternator efficiency should be around 80-90% at the 1kW power, depending on the actual stator resistance, and increase as the power levels decrease. The efficiency will drop OFF rapidly towards the 2kW level. I am not sure what you mean by better. It is relatively easy to push the maximum power levels up with mods to furling points etc or a bigger rotor, but better is usually associated with higher energy harvest at the same windspeeds from the same magnets and rotor, without necessarily moving where the windmill is.. I know from my own research and that of others before me that round magnets seem to simplify the design and provide a lower resistance stator. Without a wind tunnel, windmill performance comparisons will require some form of analyzer that can identify improvements to output in relation to windmill changes in the real world. If you have a logging system in place then you will be in a reasonable position to confirm theories. A windmill analyzer is a good place to start. Keep us posted with some wind harvest data. Hi SpitsFire, I can only agree with all that has been said, a Job well done. I have built a 500W windmill of similar design but this has inspired me to go for a bigger unit and looking at those nice pictures gives me that extra push (I hope) I have always wanted to include slip rings and you make it look so easy. I was thinking of using car alternator brushes and copper pipe cut into rings cast with resin, but your idea seems repeatable. I will look at the Autocad files tomorrow. Now just imagine....MPPT with this turbine..... Thanks a lot. Leon ZS5QY Happy Solarwinds |

Funny you should say about using copper pipe rings set in resin and car alternator brushes. I just finished a set of slip rings using all these things. Pete. Sometimes it just works |

Pete Could you post more pictures of this brush set-up. How the brushes mount etc. Show the other side, top, bottom, we want it all! Great work Leon ZS5QY Happy Solarwinds |

That looks like some good quality workmanship , I am in the middle of building a similar machine but alas not to such high standards , it seems very common for people to put up 100 photos of the build and then no information after about power etc raising and generally how it went, NICE WORK !!!! i am not interested in giving my hard earned money to corrupt "leaders" to pour down the drain. |

One of the best thread in this forum. Especially thanks for the AutoCad drawings. You have mentioned in another forum that you are using the magnet( neodimio 20x50 di grado 40 e 12 bobine). energyalternative whereas in this thread you wrote that you are using 30x50Grade 42 and. As i am following your plans, i seek your help for clarification if possible. You also mentioned that you are using 48Volt system. May i consider your batteries are arranged in the manner storing 48 volts??.. Also please tell why you chose 48Volt system.
