Team, big salutations, you guys are legends !!!

My old mate got me a set of those extruded ali blades (thanks Phill for the extra endcaps !!). I did the DXF via laser and MIG and the machine lives:

Have just completed a 7 phase F&P rewire to suit the new magnet hub and it pumps out 50 watt (That's 12 volts @ 4 - 5 amps folks)with a hand turn. Very pleased !!
Now need some heavier duty U bolts and a couple of fastening fine tunings:

I tried the blades out on the verandah with a dodgy mounting, no load, and a mild breeze. I won't do it again ! It was scary to stop, as in sailing, the apparent wind kicks in, I could SEE it accelerating !!!. That profile is awesome and I reckon it will develop some serious grunt !!

The weather has just turned to shyte here, no wind, lotsa rain, good for country .....

Looks good , when you get it up and flying it might be a bit over loaded down at low speed RPMs and stall the blades at a guess. It sounds good that with a spin of the hand it produces 4-5 Amps, but a spin of the hand could only be 60 - 70 rpm .

These blades like to get up to 90 - 100 rpm and then have the load cutt-in, with a blade Dia which looks to be 2.4m there will not be enough power avail at the blades to drive the gen if you have low cutt-in .

It will be easy to see when it is up and running if the wind is blowing and it just can not increase in rpms ( blades are in stall ) .

If this is the case it is easily fixed by rewiring, keep up the good work and sharing your progress.

Hey Phill, thanks for the thoughts

it's a bit hard to say how many revs with the hand job, I had a screw driver in one of the holes on the hub and gave it a fair old wind, hooked up to a 50 watt 12 volt globe, multi meters reading 12+ volts and 4+ amps. No cogging with the new magnet rotor is a big plus.

I tried shorting the 7 phases and was not able to turn it by hand, thinking of a brake, maybe a ganged switch, but we get mad gusts here and if things got out of control I am not sure if it could be stopped that way without some damage to the wiring. Probably better to get the mechanical stuff (furling) well sorted before giving it big air ...

the laser cutting was very cool, dxf spot on, I had to get my old mate Mr Friction in to do a little hand work on the spline teeth, he fortunately accepted the mission and it didn't take him long.

2.4m I reckon is the limit for a single F&P anyway
my first attempt at 2.5m was potentially deadly

the 7 phase will work fine but keep in mind the 7 phase deal will work upto 48V systems so 12V the top end will be highly limited (guessing only testing proves!)

I'd certainly consider running it at 24V if you can!

F&P is ultimately current limited device and thus at 24V it should be at least capable of double the output.

Stators are a dime a dozen, play with a few in different configs
-my favourite is the 100S as re-wire is almost non-existant for 48V and split in half for 24V, split in half and in delta for 12V piss easy!
