Hi this is the method I use to remove the plastic bearing holder from the base of the machine.
Use a large drill bit and drill out around the bearing holder. next from the inside& outside use a jigsaw and cut between the holes.

Next use a hammer to breakout the bearing holder from base. use safety glasses also.
holder should break free

I contemplatd drilling one hole, then using a jigsaw to cut out around it, but the believe it or not, I was actually hoping to leave the bowl intact.

The missus is a keen gardner - and it looks like it could make a pretty good fertiliser bowl. Drop a large bolt through the old hole where the shaft was, with a neoprene washer. Do up tight. Re-install the drain pump, add a mains cord....

Chuck in some moopoo, fill up with water, stir/agitate. Then, when she wants to fertilise the plants in the glasshouse, just turn on and she has suitably diluted liquid fertiliser "on tap" (or comming out the hose!)

I suppose if the bearing block were removed, I could make a larger cap... but it'd be a lot easier if I left it as it is.

Most of the pics I've seen *SEEM* to have discarded the plastic bearing holder anyway and turned a new holder down out of steel or something anyway?

Hiya Ross,
Well mate I used a similar method for removing the bearing holder then I rasped it down to fit snuggly inside some 75x75 RHS then I tapped4x 6mm holes in 2 sides and stainless capscrews keep the bearing holder locked in place. When I get the film developed for my camera I can put some photo's up of my first F&P wind genny as my digital camera went for a swim and I aint replaced it yet.

Cheers Bryan

Gee, I had to re-read that bit about "Get my film developed"- thought I was going back in time a bit -- You know I have a very expensive Nikon camera , what a waste it seems to be now ,must have cost more than $1000 years ago .
Now days it's grab the digital ,press the button a few times ,race back to the computer ,in 1 minute thare they are ,ready to send around the world !!!.

Excuse my ignorance, but are those bearing holders good for anything but test rig in the shed? I would hesitate putting something like that on a "production" mill...All this hassle of removing the holder seems to be time wasted to me. But I might be wrong anyway

Hi Tom , been using the Nylon / Aluminium bearing housing for 10 years --perfect--- Have them on a test bed and in the air,no problem at all . I actually use a Sabre saw to cut them out ,5 minutes work . They secure it in the vice and shape it with a spokeshave -works a charm. I then go ahead and fit the shaped bearing holder in some rectangular or circular pipe and drill and insert a few pop rivets or self tappers in there --solid as a battleship

Do it !!

i used a wood splitting axe to remove the first bearing holder, then for the other 2 i just used a long bolt and a hammer to bash the bearings out and threw the rest away.

hi ya all i make a rolling frame with casters and use the tub and pump to pump the suds or rinse water back into the auto washing machine. i use a champane cork in the shaft seal and install a tap to drain out the grey water by garden hose   hope it helps those on water restrictions. you can use a 9 inch angle cutter to cut out the bearing holder but be carefull of the molten plastic   bye

Hi Matt.

You know thats a good idea, sort of like a portable water tank with pump.

For the not so frightened amongst you a chain saw is the fastest way to remove the guts. About 30secs with no sweat.

Watch you toes and fingers,
Have fun
