hi to all,, i am a newbie of this profession,, anyone can help me how to build my own f&p windmill.. i need it to charge a 12V battery that can power my desktop p.c.. is it possible?? or where can i get a f&p motor?? guys im am very thankful to those who can help me..pls... more power to this site!!

Hi James,

the F&P motor comes from a Fisher and Paykel 'Smart Drive' washing machine. These machines originated in New Zealand and are now sold in other countries but I am not sure of the Philippines.

Most of us probably get our F&Ps from the tip or recyclers etc but if you have to buy one you could try these peopl Ecoinnovation

Hi James.

If you do find a F&P motor, you can use the windmill design here http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/fp2a.asp to get started. You could also try a modified truck alternator. Matt Lyons has build one, his details are here http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/Articles/MattLyons.asp.

With the posts I have been seeing about how your vawt Lenz2 model is spinning while most of the hawts are having trouble finding enough wind to start I was wondering why you don't recommend it to someone starting out wanting to supply a light load? It isn't that complicated a design.

Just curious as I am getting close to building a big set to test. I already have a big H rotor up on my test tower but no loading for it yet. I am trying and find a way to match something to the low rpms you get from the large diameter turbines so I can check power output. It makes it harder to design when I have to take the thing down often to make changes or switch airfoils.

The Lenz2 design is still in early developement. I know Ed Lenz has a few improvements he's testing, so I've waited to see how things go before doing a Lenz2 windmill project. I dont want to show a design that may be obsolete in a month or two. And as its Ed's baby, I need to make sure he is ok with me describing his design in detail.

Tell us about your H windmill. I thnik the H style looks cool.

I understand but most designs are never finished with improvements.

I talked to Ed and got the lastest updates on design specs and it may be more wing/airfoil than I really want to put up because of its large surface area. I had not done the math on how much wing area a Lenz2 would take on a bigger diameter turbine. I call them wings because on a H rotor vawt they look more like wings than anything else.

When I have a little more time I'll post a diary with pictures on my progress on an H rotor so far.

but i had an old car alternator.. can i use it?
i tried to put some blades on it but they won't spin.. what should i do?? tnx for all the replies.. tnx..

About F&P far l know there is none aviable in Philippines so what you need look up on Australia E-bay not Plilippines E-bay as you wont find one

sir dwyer..
i had bit of a problem.. i tried the small windmill, the one that uses a stepper motor.. i did get the materials.. my concern is about the blades.. when i test the windmill the the blades wonn't turn.. i tried a little experiment by facing the blades towards a electric fan .. and i work.. how can i able to turn the blades using the wind outside..

Sorry to hear your problem trying get windmill going. Unfortunately where you living in this area is not much help because of dense of housing, diesel fuel mogs from Passage ride Jeep, truck, smoking 2 stoke engine sidecar and uncontrollable industrial pollution are trapped in Manila due lack of wind l am afraid it will not help unless if you able to move out of Manila like going to BAGUIO CITY where is good place for wind on the mountain or other area outside of Manila where is windy is only place that you can give ago

How big were you blades on the stepper motor windmill?

You may need to make some longer blades.
