HI EVERYONE
I an having some problem with rare neodymium lron boron magnent that l have fitted to the 90 amp alt after machine down and glue the magnent on the amateur however when l this working running 1000 rpm not much voltage nor amps came out as l was very disapoint 3 volt that all l get and l belive is problem on the magnent is NORTH and SOUTH Pole which is wrong way around but is not . this is second made all the same problem Has anyone having same problem ?? Need some adivse .

Thats a weird one. Is it possible the magnets were made wrong, poles are at each end instead of each face. If you have a spare magnet, try moving it across the magnets to make sure there isn't a pole reversal across the face.

Hi Dwyer, I'd gently prise the magnets from their seatings and re-arrange them so they are all North-South-North-South sort of position--maybe you've allready done this- ,, so dunno. Anyway somethings bugger-up ,Ol,Mate

Hi Dwyer,

Can not add much to the replies already made. Love the background to your photo however. Is the table cloth hand made or just a reproduction?? My support person would never let me use such an heirloom to help display my creations. I think Bruce is on the right track.

Is the overall diameter of the rotor the same now as it was when it was an electromagnet? It is crucial that the air gap be a small as possible.

1000 rpm is not fast for an alternator of this type, in normal automotive service it would range up to maybe 5,000 rpm.

Then there's the magnets although your post says you have already checked that. I am sure you know that the direction of magnetisation is across the thin faces.

If all these things are OK, I would start looking at whether the normal winding produces a greater magnetic field strength that the neos.
