My neighbour has a large alternator in his yard I keep looking at, thinking what monster of a windmill we could make with it. He said we is thinking of listing it on Ebay. The alternator looks in very good condition and was to be for a project but no more as it turned out to be unsuitable. I would love the fun of making a windmill with it, maybe with the neighbour as it is his alternator.

It looks too heavy to place up the top of any tower I could build. Perhaps it is time to build a vertical axis windmill...

Better stick it on ebay.

This sort of alternator isn't suitable for wind turbines, unless you want to build a monster with a turbine over 5 meters in diameter and use gearing to get the RPM up around 1500.

Much much much easier to use something like a F&P, or even make your own axial flux windmill.

Mmm...

I don't disagree. Perhaps money from Ebay could part fund an Oz Wind kit.
