I came across these converters on eBay. 
I haven't been able to google much about them. A question or two, Would one of these connected from a 550 watt wind genny and 3 phase rectifier pack to a water heater element act as a dump load AND prevent the element being over voltage/burnt out? Would it act like a capacitor tripler/doubler in light wind conditions, to trickle the batteries, too ? I have Gizmo's controller and some dump resistors to mind the batteries, what I am looking for is a dump load that uses the heat, other that radiating it into the air, therefor I need a type of voltage control so as to not burn out the element. OR is there something else you are all using? Next windy day do I add a volt meter and dangle the element in a bucket of water and watch what happens? I realize I am tempting an over-speed if the converter fails, same problem if the element burns out. I can put another over-voltage control. But is any electronic device perfect? A manual switch is best if I am home. The wind jenny is made with the tail as one piece and cannot be furled. Alternatively I could let it down, but by then the wind is too strong to be undoing guy wires. Dumping or turning on everything in the house to load it seems silly if I could heat water instead. Hi Rod The boost module isn't suitable for your application to heat water, it will happily boost low voltage to trickle the batteries but isn't able to carry the the high amps in a dump load. You can get a couple of 24 volt heater elements that would carry the amps as a dump load, I have seen them on Fleabay. All the best Bob Foolin Around |
