Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

(Is that Casper or one of the others in the back ground?

So I took that noisy GIGU down

I had seen the blades buckled into a sine wave on numerous occasions

Sounds like the jake brake on a truck, not to mention I think it is vibrating the screws out of the roofing iron.

When it makes the noise it bogs down and usually flips back end into the wind

In fact it spends most of the time flipping backwards and forwards

I compared the blades on the precision balance

One was a holden wheel nut different!

I cut up to 6 mm from the tip, this made little difference

I used a belt sander and worked the whole blade, eventually I had two the same

Then repeating the sanding I managed to get them all very close to the same weight

I fitted a random piece of aluminium to the tail

GIGU now holds steady into the wind

It still makes the noise briefly at about 30 klms wind speed but then passes through the vibration and continues to make power.

I believe this time and effort has resulted in a four times the output

That's a lot of work to fix something that should have been right in the first place.

Are you still working on the Dunlite? I was given one that is in pieces, needs a new gear for the armature, I am considering replacing the generator part with a few F&P motors.
