I was lead here by one of the youtube vids, and a water powered smartdrive
generator, the claimed output being 800 watts with a 13mm ??? jet. has anyone had
simmilar results using a vertical wind turbine, if so, how big was it, and what was
the approximate wind speed and location. I will have a 6kw grid tied inverter for
solar panels in a couple of weeks, which allows dual inputs, from what i have seen
of other PV systems, voltages of around 400v input into the grid tied inverters is common for larger systems. Obviously the F&PSD motor in its original config would seem
to be ideal for the second track on the inverter assuming i will only get a few hundred rpm from the wind turbine, i realize the F&P motors can make up to 1500 volts, but that is at about 2000rpm isnt it.

any thoughts or input gratefully accepted

regards

It would be a good idea to state what brand and model the inverter is. I used to have a Latronics inverter that required a fixed input of 98 volts for a wind/hdro generator.

Also the regulations in Australia are very strict about what you can do with a grid tie system. For instance you can't just have solar panels mounted any way you like. The mounting must be approved and installed by a qualified person. Getting a home made wind generator approved may be very difficult.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

The inverter is a Growwatt MTL Dual MPPT, which i understand can handle up to 3500 watts on one of the two inputs, with a total max of 6kw

Some miss the obvious - A hydro and windturbine are two different beasts, hydro can be set up to run at High RPMs @ 1000+ allowing you to rewire for very low resistance for Max watt out put , some F&P hydros only use 1/2 to 1/3 the stator poles so as not to over load the pelton wheel.

Wind - If you want that type of out put it can be achieved with a Dual Stator set-up and good blades , I have kits avail in this area and advice ... click on the link in the signature if you wish.

And a VERTICAL @ 800W ----- FORGET IT! Edited by fillm 2014-03-16
