Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello folks, I've just put my website back up, and included a report done by UVic researcher Matt Hall, on his review of test data collected by engineer Jon Scott, and myself. I know some people have expressed interest in seeing it. you can find it at www.artturbine.com under the supporting documents tab, near the bottom of the page. I've also included links to the 1977 blackwell report, where it was reported that a Savonius type turbine reached about .2 Cp (20% efficiency) and a link to the thesis by Ian Ross 2010 where he explains the discrepancy between wind tunnel results and real world results in high solidity VAWTS. Best Wishes Drew www.artturbine.com |

This is just bulsh*t Savonius windpower, that is just a joke. Here you can read the facts about that. Paul Gipe and Hugh Piggot, both are the best small windpower experts in this world; http://www.wind-works.org/cms/index.php?id=116 From Hugh Piggots forum; http://scoraigwind.co.uk/2013/02/the-truth-about-vertical-ax is-turbines/ Antero |

@ Drew & Antero As yard art, it's very pleasing. I would not want to stand close when a big gust of wind happens, but as yard art, it's pretty cool. Also, the unit shown had to cost someone a fortune, but "art" is like that sometimes. As for Savonius windpower being a joke, it all depends on how it's done. I, for one, like VAWTs way more than HAWTs; I know, I'm in the minority here. I'm 64 and my days of climbing a tower to tinker with things up in the friendly skies are history. For that reason alone, I like the fact that all the working parts are at ground level. ALL my future serious windmill builds will be VAWTs. The unit I have designed is pure drag. It's big, slow-moving and has tons of torque. I intend using a transmission against all that torque to create useable power. Elsewhere on this 4m, there has been some concern with a VAWT being impossible to "yaw" itself out of the wind flow, to prevent over-speeding in high winds. I've overcome that too. I'll back up all my big words with a "proof of concept" build very soon. I've been putting off building "toys" in favor of finishing my new house by winter. The house is 95% done, so I'll be back in the toy shop any day now. I was originally going to build a 3KVA unit, but have decided to do a small one, which will, pump air (of course!) instead. . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! Keep in mind that your vocabulary represents the quality of your thinking. It may seem funny but it will not help people take you seriously. I suggest you either educate yourself by reading some of what I have presented in my website, or refrain from adding fertilizer to the discussion. Wind economics are determined by three things The installed cost of the system. The ability of the system to receive and convert wind energy to useful power. The longevity of the system. The ART Turbine represents advancements in VAWT technology in all three of these area's. Does it do so effectively enough to be a better option than PV, or small wind systems, I think it may, in some locations. That is yet to be determined, and it is far to early for anyone, especially someone who has not even read the relevant documentation to pronounce upon. Be mindful of the fact that while I am convinced I have an improvement on the high solidity VAWT, I am not selling anything. I am promoting the idea that I have something new and possibly valuable, and I am sharing information about it, as I see fit. |

We seam to have two threads about the same topic. I'll close this one, please post comments on the other. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
