Hi,

Been lurking for a long time but not contributing because I gave up on the conversion of photos to Glenn's new format. Earlier posts, which I missed, have probably explained what to do as jpegs have to be converted.

Downloaded a free conversion utility (7z) but found it to be too complex.

Is there an idiot proof converter around for me to convert jpegs to the required format for uploading to this forum??

As far as im aware the forum still excepts a Jpeg photo, its just the size of the photo that has always been limited.

To change the image size, just use "Paint" on any windows computer. then save it as another image, you can also select the file type to. (jpeg ... etc)

Yeah Pete's right, the forum has always accepted plain old JPG images, so long as they are not to big.

Basically, so long as the image isn't too big, the forum will happily upload it, resize and stamp it for you. The problems pop up when people use their 14 megapixel camera to take a picture that has a file size of 5 megabytes, and they try to upload it to the forum. What happens is the upload takes so long the web server thinks there is a problem and raises a error. The file size limit of images that can be uploaded is set to 2 megabytes, which is a massive file size for images in most respects.

If you resize the picture down to something like 640/480, then the file ends up around 100k, and uploads in a flash.

Once the image has been uploaded, the forum will resize it automatically to make it fit onto the page correctly, usually. If its a JPG file, it resizes down to 500 pixels wide. If its a GIF, which is a better format for line drawings, circuits, etc, then it resizes down to 1000 pixels, in an attempt to keep as much detail as possible, but still keep the file a resonable size.

After that, its puts on the copyright stamp.

The quickest way i have found for resizing photo's is if you are using outlook as your Email method is to send it to yourself in an Email.

In Explore right click on the file you want;left click & choose SEND TO & choose Mail recipient, send the photo to yourself, it will tell you that it will resize the photo to save space.

I've used this on this site before & you can reduce the size down to about 20% of the original.

I use "snipping tool" in windows accessories - It makes it easy to crop and down size all in the one action. It permanently resides on my quick launch bar.
