hello all, I have been experimenting with various dc volt,for my F/P motor.
my system has 4 - 12 volt batteries which my solar panels dump and store.
The output with various volts was interesting.pulled 2 batteries out, hooked directly to turbine after rectifier. 24 volt noticed a good increase in amps. added a 3 rd and my turbine runs a lot smother.I've purchase a 72 volt dc reducer to 12 vdc (used for a generator system) plumbed it in
today added a 4th battery 48Volt yep nice. starts putting amps out @ 9 mph winds the reducer dumps at 12.5 vdc,I would like to step up volts on dump to 13.1 13.5.

Any suggestions.

Im confused??? you quote 12 volt system then 72 volt alternator, and then 48 volt battery with 12 volts to it.

WHAT THE???

Im lost??

And why dump at 13.5v it seems a little low to me, but as i cant follow anything you are doing then that dont surprise me.

The 48 volt battery's are small just being used for the resistance load. But the step down volts of 12.5 current is not flowing into my 12 volt system.
My thought was if a step up from the 12.5 to say 14 or higher would allow my main system to regulate.
Hope the water is a bit clearer after the post.

I am not even going to try to workout the chinese puzzle of your battery system/solar/wind.

As for the stepdown DC to DC converter you have, its useless for charging a 12v battery (as you have found) and a 12v battery needs 13.8-14.2v to charge it effectivly.

Adding a stepup converter is not the answer, and just induces even more losses to the system.

You need to find a converter more suited to the power range needed (13.8-14.2v)i have seen some on ebay so you will need to look around.

The next problem you will have is the current rating of the converters, and require one with current limiting, or a flat battery will exceed the converter current rating and burn it out, unless you add some form of current limiting to the converter to restrict the current to the battery.

If you search around you should find converters that allow the output voltage to be adjusted and the current limit to be set, from memory the ones i have seen will handle up to 60v input with adjustable current/volts output.

The title "Guru" to me is not one of great pride or honour, so to address me as "Guru" is a small insult.

When i think of a Guru, i have a vision of a small Indian man with a turban on his head riding a magic carpet, sprouting words of wisdom.

Now my words might be somewhat of wisdom, i certainly dont wear a turban (i do own a turbine ) and i have no magic carpet.

Downwind,

I came across this unit tonight. has any one used this type of system
to control turbine over speed,or system voltage step down.
A dump load tied into immersion element in water heater.
The unit has 0 - 60 volt settable high and low to shut off.
Just take a look if you would Pete. the output could actually trigger a higher amp SSR if one needs more than 30.

I had a look, and yes it would do as a battery monitor, although you would want to get the "Active High" version.

A little high in price for a cheap person like me though.

I would use a SSR with it, as the 30amp rating is a little light for the relay used, and a relay with contacts would arc pretty well at 30 amp.

Not sure what you mean by a speed control or voltage stepdown, but it would work as a dump load controller.

I think it said 10-60 volt not 0-60 volt, but that is still in the ball park.
