Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi, when the PMA is working again, put a hand crank on it and give it spin with a load attached. It will give you a good sense what RPM range will be needed from the blades. Just a suggestion.

just because your a GURU or forum administer does not mean your always correct :)

Hi govertical,That is a great suggestion. I have a RPM meter, at least that will put me in the ball park.

going broke,

When and or (if) you need to gear this vawt up I suggest you try roller chain with sprokets rather than v-belts or toothed belts. (I learned this from Cris Olson's projects), there is far less energy loss, you need all you can get directed at spinning the alternator.

Hi Mac, When I had my horizontal I tried the chain thing. But all I did was drive my self crazy. Either I could not find the right bore, tooth count or the same pitch. So I just went the V belt way. But Thanks,
