I know I have not finished my 2nd windmill project, but I thought I would start thinking about my 3rd. I’m not even sure it is possible yet. I have had this motor for several years & not sure it even works. But thought I would give it a try. The plan is to take it apart & see if I can get it working again. The only thing I know about it is, it is a Westinghouse & weighs maybe 150-200 pounds. Please let me know if you guys have any knowledge about this motor & if it is even worthwhile diving into it. Here are the pics.

Hi MKHPhillips,

I would steer away from this motor. Its old, too heavy, and will give poor results.

It looks like a series wound motor, DC most likely, or a DC generator. Some of the early wind turbines used a similar ( and lighter ) motor/generator, but not in the last few decades.

take a look at ebay for ac servo motors. find something with low rpm's hi volts and amps. you will find something more efficient and weighs less than that old motor there.
