I have small mill that I made using a 12V PMA rated at 400W. I would like to just run this into a 500W Grid-tie inverter that has a built in dump load controller. I've been reading here and have seen many good ideas on making a dump load resistor out of old stove elements, heating elements, fence wire, etc. I was wondering if I could use 60W halogen headlight bulbs, 10 of them in parallel should give me 600W? I can get them for nothing including their sockets at my local wreckers. If I were to wind a coil from galvanized fence wire, how do I estimate the length of wire to use? If I used stove elements, do they have to be cut into shorter lengths, or could you just use them as is?

Thanx!

Hey Jagged,

I'm new to renewable energy, so I can't give you any advise personaly, but I did see an article here that you might find helpful.
