Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

And come to think of it, I might try two different wiring connections for a staggered output. Say a 7p2p and a 7p3p. The 7p3p will start producing charging voltage before the 7p2p, so in lighter winds with low power only one stator is making power, then as the winds pick up the 2nd stator kicks in to produce more power. This should match the wind power and blades better than two identical stators. I think the Air-X windmills use two different coils, one with lighter wire and more turns so it starts charging earlier.

Hmm. Now I'm thinking.

Yes, Glenn,I've done the electrical test on the new 36 pole Stator.
Have to retake the pic's ,as my flash was turned off,and this Old Fella had to read 5 pages of instructions to get the bloody thing turned on again, lol.

1 Phase across the star point produces 244-250 v ac at 574-600 rpm.
calculating this ,I end up with 38v ac approx.before the rectifiers.

This makes me think I will re-configure the Stator into a 3phase 4 pole unit.

What do you think ?.

Also ,I'm heading towards a dual set-up with ,like you say, different wired Stators, 1 of the 3 phase and 1 of the 7 phase ,seperate rectifiers up at the platform ,then 2 wire dc feed to the workshop control panel.
Anybody that wants to do this should consider Trev's extended s/s shaft (extended milled spline for the dual rotor) , and his cast extended bearing holder .
The only thing I'm worried about is the strength of the s/s shaft being directly connected to any 3 bladed mill of more than ,say, 11 feet diameter.
Mine is up now and is spinning slowly even in no apparent wind.
So, direct drive looks like the only way ,unless you are going over ,say,12 feet ,then the belt drive may be successful.
Sorry to be so long winded, haha.

how much are you guys paying for the new rotor??

How much are the nice looking castings?

Who is extending the spine?
so many questions so little time?

Bruce, ("Marital problems")
I know you were only joking... I just wanted to add a positive for those who may have seen it wrong. I have no problem with any smart remarks, in fact I like the added laughter. We must keep the humour!!!!

Bruce, check the dc-dc converter thread again.

Glenn, If its ok with you, I could have the "a little personal" deleted from Trev's Diary. I have no problem with it being there, but if you prefer to have it removed, then thats fine.

To all concerned, with the double, my blade length is the 2.9m diameter, and both motors are 3ph 7pole. As I have said before, starts turning at 3-4m/hr, starts charging at 4-5m/hr. 15 A at 15m/hr in 12v. I wasn't game to disconnect the other inputs when we had the wind up to 22m/hr. If I disconnected the small single motor one, it would just race off. One day I will put on individual amp meters, and put in a proper short circuit arrangement. At this wind, both the generators and 2x80 watt s/panels were 40+ amps.

I do the castings, machining etc. Check out the windmill kits & parts in this website. Foundry & Fibreglass
http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/Kits.asp

Bearing Housing (as used on White Pointer) $110
Cast 3 blade Prop Hub f&p spline $140
Extra slpine on the f&p shaft $85

Glenn, we could have the extra spline on f&p shaft added to the kits and parts page

Hey Trev

I'm happy to leave the diary entry there if you are, its all fun.

About adding the spline and stuff to your page, I have a little surprise in line for you. It means you can add/edit/delete the items yourself, and a whole lot more. I will give you a call in the next couple of days to discuss it.

Edit etc, ....Too cool Glenn,

I meant to write, the extra spline on the shaft is also a case of you supply the shaft at $85
