Hi, Is there an optimum? If it should be 45 deg., then the distance of the mounting point on the dirt from the mast would have to be the height of the mounting point at the top of the mast. Thanks. hi Domwild 45 degrees does sound nice ,i tried to get mine close to that but its a small mast so not to hard for me to do ...i used up whatever space i had ..45 seems good for the winching anchor as well but as you say its still a big foot print ...even on a small mast if you can go out to 45 i think it means a slightly lighter choice of stays can be used as the force/stress,s are better distributed ? .... its an interesting question ...the optimum 45 ?....the minimum x per height ?.... niall |

I think it has a lot to do with ground conditions, the guy wire anchors and the tower footings and too. If its loose soil, then further out would probably be the way to go. If its rock, then you could go closer to the tower, so long as you know how to anchor into rock correctly. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. good point... mine was,nt to bad ...undisturbed heavy ,thick dry,sh clay ,but everybody's got different conditions , we also have plenty of shallow boggy soft stuff here as well ...that,d be much more of a problem if your in doubt ,its comforting to hire a local guy with a mini digger for a few hours ...its a one off job and they,l usually have a slim bucket to make a nice neat deep trench .....they,l refill the anchors ,flatten and in a couple of weeks any traces of the digger will be gone ... erm... ..my mast and stays are so low it doesn't add up to more than a hill of beans ...only wish it could be higher .... niall |

Hi Dom I like to use the ratio 3-4-5 as it makes the job of getting length of the guys easy 4 is the height 3 is the splay and 5 is the guy length, makes a good strong set up to. Bob Foolin Around |

Thanks for all the answers. 3,4,5 makes a right angle and is steeper than 45 deg. 53.1 deg. if my maths is right. Taxation as a means of achieving prosperity is like a man standing inside a bucket trying to lift himself up. Winston Churchill |

Hi Dom Having a good anchor point is more important than the actual angle as a few degrees this or that way makes little difference, as the mid point guys are more than 45 degrees anyway. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

The top and second top wires are the workers. "I like this place and willingly could waste my time in it" - (Act II, Scene IV). |
