Got an excited phone call from Dad this morning, Its been windy in gippsland over the last couple of weeks, the anemometer having several periods of 15m/s sustained over several hours with gusts as high as 40m/s. Average generation over the last 3 weeks of 3kW/hrs a day today on track for a record of 10kW/hrs Peak output over the long cable run is 750W into the batteries, and losses over the run are in the order of 100W, current setup is 2x 100S stators, one in star the other in delta both with cap doublers. Windspeed to get the 700+W out of it are in the order of 8m/s+ which is excellent. Brother in-law could never really understand our interest in the turbine until his trip up there this weekend, "Amazing piece of engineering to survive up there when I can barely stand down here, spectacular and exciting to watch" No news to us on the spectacular and exciting! Hi Karl, I would give my left to be able to fly my mills in a location that has that strength of wind . Averaging 3kW/hrs a day is good going for the humble F&P Dual and good that it is handling the battering from mother nature, 15 to 40 M/S thats serious wind!! The blade dia on your mill could easily be producing over 10kW+ in that kind of wind with an AXFX but if the furling was not fail safe it would be on fire in a very short time . As long as the structual and engineered components can with stand the forces that are thrown at it , then it can sit there all day in 40m/s pumping out power. I caculate your losses over 80m of 16mm (160m there and back) @ 53V @ 14A would be around 20% so you would probably be seeing 900w+ at the mill which is on the mark for 2 x 100s stators . KarlJ Well that sounds like real good news survivability plus KWH. I know how I feel when my mill is kicking butt in high winds, congrats. Love watching my batteries fill up. Not long ago the local tornado sirens went off we headed for the basement. I had my head stuck out the window watching my mill, funny thing is I was more worried about my mill then my self or my house LOL. I did in fact shut it down before the high winds hit so all is well.
