Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I made a windmill from a fisher & Paykel washing machine. I also build a variable power supply as shown in the Backshed content pages. I also build a Solar controller as per the same pages. However I can not get this thing to work. In fact I build two of these and neither will work as per the instructions. I first build one using a 9 volt regulator but then I thought that this might affect the circuit, so I got a 8 volt regulator, but still it does not work. I can not get the green light to come on and the relay will not pull in.I have checked all the values of the resistors. Can anyone give me a hint how I can figure out what is wrong.
Thanks in advance.

hi Bertech

i havent built Glenns controller but problems with homebuilt ccts can often come down to simple errors....

did you use veroboard for the cct ?...its very easy to get a hairline solder short between tracks ,another thing that always catches me out is forgetting (or not completely cutting) a track ...

the multimeter can help here ....check the power voltages ...look for strange voltage
readings (perhaps non at all) on the ic pins

continuity where its meant to be between components etc...kind of break down the cct into individual stages type of thing ....

hope this helps .... Edited by niall1 2011-07-02
