Hi to all,
This has to be one of the craziest "what ifs" I've ever had,but with some nips and tucks it "could" work. My biuld proposal doesn't make raising and lowering a tower convenient, and I've voiced objections to making adjustments on top of the tower.I have a Mazda bravo with a flat top tray with head gate to protect the cab. What proplems would need to be addressed to set the furl speed of a dual F&P 3mtdia blade mill.Instead of annometer, gps speed might do?Some batteries for a load, and pipe clamps to secure short mast to centre of head gate.If I've blown all credibillity, just list this in the joke thread.I'm aware that Yahoo2 was just shifting a windmill that lifted the front wheels of a 6 to 8 ton truck off the ground, and I'm on the edge just dreaming up the senario. So I'm prepared to cop whatever comes from this one.(perhaps all in good fun)Cheers Rastus see Rastus graduate advise generously |

The idea of a moving test bed aka vehicle is nothing new. Just check the road for tree and service line clearance etc before you do it. |

Before ya go driving down the road with that wind genny strapped to ya roof make sure ya put some 'greenie' badges on the side of the ute. When people see the ute with the greenie badges they just think it's the norm BUT without those badges the guys might be following with that jacket with bery long arms......... |

Hi Robb,
There aren't any power/service lines so no worries, but trees, plenty up the track, so I'll go carefully. The "greenie" badges are a great idea Bryan1,a great cover!Giving it a bit more thought an annometer would be better because it will account for any natural wind plus extra produced by vehicle speed, gps spead indication won't do that. The fact that its been done before doesn't quite put me in the "normal" range yet even by my standards Cheers Rastus see Rastus graduate advise generously |

Just passing this one by you!
Instead of having 26-27mph as a pre concieved full furl setting will I have better results bench testing dual F&P,obtaining max output rpm and setting full furl slightly higher than that rpm?Or do the above figures speak for themselves throughout the forum? This is on a need to know basis! cheers Rastus see Rastus graduate advise generously |

Hi there Rastus, one of the guys on the wind gen forum did this. But while he had it mounted on his "pick-up" he was asked about it by interested locals and he quickly replied ' I'm just testing my new invention "a Wind powered car" they fell for it and were particularly impressed as they had seen this ute stopping and stating so easily and running up and down the road all morning.
All you need to do to improve on this is to throw a couple of wires from somewhere in the back to under the bonnet and then quietly coast in neutral with the motor off up to a parking spot in front of the local Pub and then spin a yarn that you've solved the problems of the world with your wind powerd bravo. LOL

Hi Shawn,
When I was younger I'd have followed your advise,as I've aged I've become more causious and the grandkids are the ones to avoid the wires!
Hi Rusty,
A good yarn, had a good laugh with it!Cheers Rastus see Rastus graduate advise generously |
