Neo magnet pricing has been climbing rapidly. Here is a snippet sent to me fom a supplier in China. "The raw material market of neodymium magnet is still not optimistic since we wrote you in February. Especially, the price of Neodymium & Dysprosium has surged recently. For Dysprosium, from USD462/KG to USD647/KG; for Neodymium, from USD69230/TON to USD123077/TON." The graphs were also sent to me and are taken from http://www.asianmetal.com/price/initPriceListEn.am?priceFlag =8 but the average jo can't read the information. Here I have copied the graphs showing the price climb on raw materials. Date on the bottom and price on the left side of the graph. Neodymium Dysprosium The current price in China for N50M is USD$25 (20 April) in quantities of 100 or more. Look at the graph, the price is now higher than that, today (2 May). Tommorow the price will be higher. Trev @ drivebynature.com |

Trev Guess that means I should use up the zillions of neo-mags I have sitting all over my shop, eh? I can't believe all the magnets I have; I could build a statue with them all! . . . . . vawtwindy, Welcome to the forum, Depending on you'r meaning of the word "help", Ferrites will yeild 1/3 to 1/2 the power output vrs neo magnets, but at a much lower costs, and as I understand it the ferrits will continue on for several years vrs the neo mills wich seem to have corrosion problems as well as the tendency to burn out the mill when spun to fast during a high wind event. This is my understanding anyway, others may want to add their experiances. ...Mac46 I'm just a farmer |

soon ferrite prices will also shoot up Ni45Co5Mn40Sn10 The multiferroic alloy, with the catchy name Ni45Co5Mn40Sn10, was created by combining its various elements at the atomic level. Multiferroic materials are known for having unique elastic, magnetic and electric properties, and in the case of this alloy, that takes a form of an usual phase change. When heated, the non-magnetic solid material suddenly becomes a strongly magnetic solid http://www.gizmag.com/alloy-converts-heat-into-electricity/1 9025/ |

i can see no reason for ceramic mags to go up in price. the materials used are widely available i think it's mostly industrial waste if china tries to pull something funny, someone else will gear up to produce and undercut them. |

This whole thread should have been in the price watch section. Sorry Glenn. I was just looking at the Aussie magnets website that Glenn posted specials page of in the price watch section. I had a look at the website and compare some prices of 50mm diameter x 12mm thick. They have a N42, but don't say what temperature rating. http://aussiemagnets.com.au/product/-50mm-x--12.7mm-Disc-%28 Rare-Earth%29.html I knew they were going up, but can you believe $50 each. My N50's ($15) just went up. No, really I am going to keep them all. In fact no one would want them now anyway. The last lot I sold came back with pit marks on them. I think it must have been some issue with original packing causing the pit marks. All I have in stock are like this now. Trev @ drivebynature.com |
