Hi Guys,

I'm going to give a HAWT a go after my VAWT only generates about 3A @ 12V which doesn't quite cut it.

What is there out there either using a F & P in a kit or ready made job that is super quiet and not too big that I can get around 200-300W out of at 12V?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Bj

I suppose the logical first questions would be "How much wind do you have? and What kind of money do you want to spend?"

I think fillm (Phillip Mann) sells something of a kit; search for him in the member list and send him a PM.

Windmills aren't yet to the stage model airplanes are; you can't buy an ARF (almost ready to fly) kit to my knowledge. It takes some extra effort, but I think fillm would be a good place to start.

Thanks for the reply Mac,

I have enough wind to get my savanious running at on average 3A @ 12V

here is a link

I was looking for something around the 200-300W mark that didn't require milling of parts and laser cutting as I don't have access to that sort of toolage. The thing was it needs to be 1/4 acre compliant in the noise department. My current mill sits 1m above the shed and doesn't make a sound.

Anyway just wondering what cheap (possibly with modification) Chinese mills are any good, or if there are F & P pre-cut kits kicking around for a crack at the HAWT ;)

Cheers

Bj

Hi BJ,

Yea I do have 500w kits and there are pics in the for sale section , if you are running 12v or 24v they are very quiet , especially 24v star with a cap/dblr .

They do require some work to get them going well but the basics are all there and come with a very strong 6m tower, which is good for the price as most under estimate the cost of putting a gen in the air.

Drop me a PM or there is a link in the for sale to my email if you are interested.Edited by fillm 2011-03-15

I live in southern California and there's a guy who has sold cars here for what seems an eternity, named Cal Worthington. He has a snappy little jingle that sing-songs "Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal".

I said all that to say this: Go see Phil, go see Phil, go see Phil. I saved you the trouble of searching for Phil's kit.

Edit: cursed with chubby fingers!

Hi Mac,

I don't think being stereo typed to a Car Salesman in the US is such a good thing , some of the adds we have seen here leave a lot to be desired, much like some of the TV series we have had to endure over the years, especially the one where that guy could defeat the most unbelivable situations with whatever he could find

Some will always want the full hands on experience with their windmills , some don't.

But thanks for the plug and the jingle
