Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

[Quote=Oscar4u]if I build a 6-7m set of blades does coroflute seem like a good idea? Truthfully, the longest blade I've made to date is 4 feet and I used a wood spar up the length. It tries to bend as it begins to "fly" (after the airfoil kicks in) so I'd recommend using an aluminum tube round or rectangle instead of wood. Like I've said before, I build small stuff, so wood works fine for me. My advice would be to invest some time in researching before you start building. Bob is right about a wind assessment. I just build toys, but if you're really serious about using wind energy for something like running your home, invest the time in some research. See what kind of wind you have and see if there is anyone in your area who is currently using a wind genny and talk to them first. I'd hate for you to rely on my meager efforts here and make a "white elephant" as has been suggested. Do some more homework first. . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! My 6m tower is smaller than the one shown but pretty robust and cheap as it gets 6" bore case in the ground 2m in a couple of m of concrete, up about 3m a second 4" case is used for the next bit, tilts over and with a dual F&P or a 2KW chinese mill works like a champ KArl Luck favours the well prepared |
