Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi friends,

Have posted this message already on Fieldlines without success but may be able to reach a different audience here.

1. Does anyone have a manual and/or software for this beast? It runs on 36VDC. Am certainly happy to pay for copying/mailing costs.

2. Would it use a null modem cable or a straight-through cable to connect a UPS to a PC?

Linux has a document specifically addressing UPS coms with PCs but does not list this model.

Regards,
Dominic

Hi Dominic

Ahh, been there, trying to find the software for a old UPS. It was a while ago, but I did learn a couple of things.
First up, different makes use different cables, some are null modem, some straight through, and some are neither.
When I looked for software I do remember I came across a Linux generic UPS program, command based server sort of thing, but it wasn't what I was looking for so I moved on.
Have you tried using a seria cable, serial breakout box and a terminal program? The UPS should be sending out data constantly, usually line voltage, battery state, etc. So if you play around with a few different cables and serial program you should start to get something.
What do you want to do with the software, monitor or adjust the UPS. The software I've seen lets you monitor the battery and line, plus run tests and adjust the switch over voltage.

Hope thats helps a little.

Glenn,
Thanks for that. Once I have it established I will try to play around with a breakout box and Linux/Windoze and try to snag it.

Emerson does not reply to these kind of requests. Yes, if I can set the float voltage or similarly important figures, that would be magic.

How do you manage? Your own website, lots of projects, a full-time job, wife, in other words, the whole catastrophe?? Do you get up two hours earlier to work 26 hrs. per day??

Am dreaming to switch 240VAC and steer it with a Picaxe. Once power fails, I need to disconnect mains and switch the small house load in via the UPS. Have seen the following:
MOC3041 opto driving a Triac TIC226M (600V, max. 1750W or 8Amps). Is it cheaper to build such a circuit or should I get the Jaycar semiconductor relays for $40?

Thanks.
Dominic

Glenn,

Go looking for one! You never know, you might find a good one! "The couples, who build mills together, stay together" is my saying.

Should I have placed my last question to you into the Electronics section? My apologies, have not done so.

My message to Fieldlines re new non-cogging F&P stator and a reference to your web site has been deleted, it only stayed up a few days, i know as i am a daily reader.

You can guess why?

Yes I leaned some time ago that the Fieldlines editors tend to delete messages without reason. Fieldlines/Other Power is a good source of infomation and a respected site, but the editors are a bit trigger happy with the delete key. Its something I decided not to do with this forum. Occasionally we do get off-topic messages ( God saves you, Perpetual motion machines, etc ), so I will, if its very bad, delete the content but always leave the message there with a comment about why I did so. Same with some of the rants, I just leave them and they eventually fizzle out. But I'll never delete a message without some notice as to why.
I generally try to keep the mood happy and friendly, and always look out for any unanswered posts, even if off topic, and will post a simple answer so at least the author knows someone has read their message. I figure if someone went to the effort of signing up and posting a message, the least I can do is say "Hi".
