Hello, Just thought you guys may be interested in these new wind turbines suited for suburbia. Pretty cheap. Basically it looks like a VAWT mounted on its side. checkout www.windpods.com The inventor is from Fremantle, WA. Thankyou. Regards Darcy Randall, Perth Western Australia |

Very strong looking creatures, but they are focussed on only 2 wind directions. "The answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind" Bob Dylan |

Yeah its a VAWT windmill on its side, kind of pointless, but it might find a market for low profile roof mounted applications, where the wind never changes direction. The 1kw at 12.5m/s figures dont really mean anything, thats a wind speed of 45kmh, which you wont see very often. In reality, you could expect to see more like 100 watts. I think money would be better spend on a standard configuration HAWT with tower, you would get much more power per $ Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. Interesting site. It looks like one of those ideas that looks good at first site then seems to have a number of drawbacks. Wind in only two directions was pointed out above. Where is the generator? How would you get to it? I had a look through the site but didn't see any figures on cut in speeds or performance curves that were post production? Mentions the company's own inverter (not ready yet) why not use one off the shelf. Also the installation pictures I think in most cases are conceptual? A few other red flags here - website is dated 2009? Production delayed till 2011? Only a few contact details and no address.... But on the positive side looks cool - maybe a market as Eco-Bling? Looks like it could be mounted oin places that a HAWT machine on a tower would not work? I would welcome coments if I have got things completely wrong..... great books @ http://www.Onetoremember.co.uk Buy and sell renwable energy bits and pieces free at http://www.EnergyBook.co.uk |
