Hi Crew,,,

I have a 2-2.8 Kw exmork wind gennie ,,big 40 Kg model (2 man lift) and 12 foot 6 inch blades .. happy with all the stuff ...

Question ,, Has anyone dismantled this monster to re- pack the bearings and inspect for any corrosion / other things that may need attention???/.

I e-mailed James yeo? and what i got back was ,, " yes, you are advised to inspect and re-pack the bearings once a year ,,if you have problems ,, send photo's and get back to me forfurther instructions."

Well,,,,, I'd rather know how to safetly take the beast apart ,,,like,,, is the main generator on a spline and comes apart from the slip -ring assembly easy or do I have to dig deeper and find out later that the slip -ring assembly is part of the generator shaft '

And ,,,if I dismantle the slip-ring assembly ,,do things spring and then what do I do .? like ,how do I open the slip-ring assembly to get the main power train back ?

This is probably a stupid question but have you tried the Australian agents for disassembly instructions for this beast.

I tried them ages ago. I don't wish to say anything too horrible, but:
1. Couldn't get a straight answer about just about anything
2. Couldn't get anything longer than 2 metres shipped (ergo, no tower)
3. Prices were.... well, shall I just say "uncompetetive"
4. Could never get a return call even when I was trying to BUY one.

Apart from that though, 'twas all good :)

Why do you guys keep buying their products? The Exmork doesn't even have chinese website!

We can get loan and subsidy easier if the main business is export,and They don't even need to sell them to anyone and can still earn money!They wouldn't care about your grumble.

Hi Bruce,

Not sure how much it's alike the new machine with 3.8m diameter blades, but one guy here took his apart to put SKF bearings to the rotor. I don't know the exact details, but he said he just needed a hoist to get the rotor out. The stator is lined with wooden dowels, so there's no fear in scratching the coils while pulling it out. Not sure how the stator disconnects from the sliprings, but I'd be surprised if it was anything too complicated.

I can ask the guy for details if you need help breaking yours apart.

Thanks for the replies Guys .. had a guy in the states send me some photo's of him dismantling his exact same model ,, so how about that !!!.

Kevin don is putting them down a bit ,,but from what I've got at first hand mine seems to be a very well thought out piece of engineering ,, very heavy construction , a two man lift just to get the brute on the support pipe.
We'll see how the electronics holds up ,,

I have been in touch with the manufacturer and if you email them directly they will reply to you, I am a bit worried by someone who has a 300 watt model to find out there were no rubber seals to stop water coming in.

I am half way through building a Hugh Piggott 10 foot model but looking at the price you can buy these for direct from the manufacturer I am wondering "what is the point" , by the way im new to the forum so hello from sunny England.

Hi Gavin, welcome to the forum.

Yeah the price of these cheap Chinese windmills does make you wonder why build you own. But building you own can be a fun project, gives you a sense of achievement, and will probably last longer

just to add a bit if thats ok

theres always a debate about whether to "build or buy" , its a personal choice in the end ...

very few commercial machines seem to be plug and play , on the other hand homebuilds
can suffer problems as well

one advantage of the homebuilt is you will always be able to maintain it/keep it running over the years, (most of the parts will be locally sourced)
for instance if you need to replace a blade ,or prop , or maybe adapt the running characteristics its not a big deal as you already made the original
and understand what makes it tick....
i dont own an exmork but if i did i think i,d do like Bruce and get familiar with every
nut and bolt in its construction...nature usually asks big questions down the line

a friend of mine runs the 10 foot off grid...hes very happy with it Edited by niall1 2011-01-23

I def have enjoyed building the ten footer and still have the challenge of getting it up on the tower ( which is the bit im looking forward to most ) , and I can really see why people do it its alot of fun , I just couldnt beleive how much a 2 or 3kw exmork system is , and people seem to be happy with them in general. The bit of the exmork that connects to the tower looks very flimsy though suprised they stay on there :).

Hi GSW ,, concerning your worries about the mounting fixture .. It's a 75mm heavy wall steel tube bit that slides over the 75mm Mast tube bit ,,so it's one sixe up from 75mm. It's got 4 welded clamp pieces on it and through these go 4 8mm bolts to tighten everything up .. Very robust imho...

I did re cold gal everything and epoxy paint everthing .

I'd reckon it's about what I'd do if building it myself.
I'm happy to hear that Exmork 's man James Ye (hope thats correct), is talking , He sent me an e-mail ,,but no pictures-drawings ,, I feel he should post these for all to look at ,,could do him and Exmork a big service !!!.. We'll wait and see..

I'm happy , have no gripe with him or Exmork..
