Hi Treecare

Why do you have a 12 volt setup on your mill when you are using 24 volts as the storage then bringing it back to 12 volts to run 12 lights, The converter, I have one that puts out 15 amps 12 volt from 24 volt and it works well for lights pressure pump and an ex car stereo.

On your dump load Glenn has a design for a nice simple dump load controller on the project section on the front page and some loads that can be made from readily available materials. I use a GTI but you may not have mains so that may not be applicable for you.

All the best

Thanks Bob,its sound wrong i no!!.so if i run 2 12v f&p both feed to a converter will it then make 24v?,my have stuffed up already.Im using 24v storage thinking they will run lights for longer.think this will be a long slow learning process lol.i have the room for a dozen mills here,so will be building more when i no what im doing.

Why not just set the stators up for 24 volt to start with, and charge the batteries direct with 24 volt.

Pete.

Hi Treecare

As Pete suggests use your F&P's wound to 24 volts and charge batteries at that. it is a lot easier in the long run to work on 24 volts as there are less wiring losses in the system, then use the 24Volt to 12 Volt down converter to run your 12 volt things.

A dual stator should do around 700 watts maximum assuming you have good winds where you are. Expect around 25 amps at 24 Volts in good wind 12.5 ms + down to next to nothing at 3 ms. This would reflect a prop diameter of over 2.5 meters.

It would pay to invest in several 200 watt 24 volt solar panels as well even if the wind is good, as they are better at topping up your batteries than a windmill.

Have fun but I warn you windmills are addictive.

All the best

thanks Pete, yes 24v is the go,but my stators are wired for 12v,so i thought 2 would make 24v.i will have to get to more and try to wire them for 24v.
Thank you Bob your a good help to people like me that have the bug but dont no anything yet,can be bit embarrassing posting basic things. So you are saying i should wire each one to 24v =48v straight to batteries,or just one stators to 24v to batteries.
Thanks Mick

Hi Mick

I think that you could go for 24 volts on each stator with a rectifier on each one and combine the two as DC, If you have the electrical knowledge you could connect them at at the ac 3 phase output but is a bit difficult for a newbie.

Don't worry about posting for help as the only silly question is one not asked. There is a wealth of experience on the forum so have a track back through some of the earlier posts on the subject and that will help you get a picture of what to do.

it might be a good idea to start with a single stator until you get a bit more experience. The main thing is to have fun with your hobby and grow in experience as you go.

All the best
