Hi everyone, this is my first post. I managed to slap up a mill frame and would like a little advice if you can. At present I have rectified at the frame however I was thinking of doing that down the tower. I have the slip rings which only have two contacts, is it possible to use the mast as the connection for the third phase? Also I have the old k220 regs, I was going to use one set at 14.8v and a second a little higher incase one fails. With the ferrite rotor how many amps/watts do I need to provide a nice load to stop overhating the coils, around 200 watts? Also if you want to place the mosfets off the board is this how to wire it? here's a pic of some dodgey welding, the big plates are aluminium where the rectifiers are mounted, I think they may be a little big and could effect furl action? your input would be greatly appreciated Central Victorian highlands |

Hi Highlander. Yes you could use the mast connection as one electrical connection, but there are a few little things to remember. 1. The mast connection may be a little "dirty" for electricity, and cause one phase to be a little erratic in its output, and 2. You will have one phase connected to ground, this is OK so long as the DC after the rectifier is always isolated from ground, ie dont connect the batt -ve to ground. Yes two Oatley regulators connected on the same battery will work fine, even with different switching voltage adjustments. I dont have a copy of the Oatley circuit, but it looks like you could connect the MOSFETS off board like your drawing. Dodgey welding is ok so long as there is lots of it Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Thanks for the reply Glenn Here's the wiring for the 220. I think my conversion is right but no harm to check. Central Victorian highlands |

matt a neighbour gave them to me from an old mill parts box. They are in the shed somewhere I'll have a look. I wasn't going to use them as the wire can only handle maybe 30 amps. The connections inside the sliprings are covered but the wire in there is probably the same size. Central Victorian highlands |
