Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

7phase conversion, Plastic chemical drum blades, 8 bridge rectifiers, hybrid windings - part 7p2s, 7p2p: 7p2s produces the higher voltages in slow winds, until the 7p2p picks up and delivers the current... Hub features adjustable blade pitch to match installation site - not that you'd want to adjust it every day... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFnACAAb3Xo Nige. nweeks In your video, it appears to "furl" in both directions. Can you explain the tail-feather motions for those of us with older eyes? . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! That's not furling, that's turbulence in the courtyard - a very gusty day that day. Not sure how fast it actually went, but the unshaped blades didn't make a sound, so it can't have been too fast. The trailing edge of the blades will be sanded down hopefully this weekend, then painting, and hooking up to the dummy load for testing... The future owner of it in Launceston has already seen it, as he's keen as mustard to have it now... N. Nigel Weeks nweeks at karbonit dot com |

Nice build N. I think you'll be happy with the 7 phase conversions, mine was the best performing mod I ever made to a F&P. The litte wobble is a ballance issue, its at a low RPM so its not to bad, but see if you can get it sorted before you put it up on a tower. Keep us posted on how it goes. Thanks Gizmo! Quite literally, I slipped the blade poles into the adjusters on the hub, rotated them to about the same pitch, and put it out in the wind - have to take the motor off and do balancing properly! :) I'm actually tempted to bolt an accelerometer on the frame, and get it to tell me the heavy side of the blades are - might even tell me how many grams to put on, and where. (The accelerometer is one my Dad uses for motor/gearbox condition monitoring - very handy) Will post up some pictures very soon! :) N. Nigel Weeks nweeks at karbonit dot com |

Cut them from a plastic chemical drum... You can get the Taper, Twist, and Curve needed for fairly good airfoils, all by simply cutting the drum correctly. I'm about to re-cut them actually, using an improved shape for greater chord at the root. The only non-recycled part in the whole unit were the 50MM yaw bearings - everything else is scrap. :) N.
