I must say many of us have thought about similar, and its nice to see the work and effort that has gone into proving the theory don't work well enough to attempt it ourselves.

It do look a little mad scientist in contraption wise, but i can also fully relate to this with testing a theory.(been guilty of simular)

Nice work Trev and goes to show how others have spent many hours pathing a way for the rest not to follow.

Im sure there was a lot of fun in trying all the same.

Pete.

Hi guys and thanks for all the interest it is nice to see some designs up and running i must admit the amount of drawing and thinking that has gone into my design has almost killed me and that's just to overcome the gear walking issues i am going to take the drafts to a mate who's an engineer as get him to make a prototype

the basic idea is to use tow tapered bearings input from the base of the mill to the center of bearing one with a sprag clutch operating on the outer housing (inner acting sprag clutches) i will then make a housing to fit over bearing two's outer cup connecting bearing one and two together, and a hub that will insert into bearing two's inner cup to house sprag clutch two a set of cables of rod's attached to the tail and outer sprag housings to engage and disengage the sprag's (both sprag's will be in lock mode unless the control system is activated this will mean the shaft is locked until the mill needs to follow the wind (well that's my plan will post some pics when its built)
hope that kind of gives you an idea of the design

Aron

[Quote=aorn318]Mac just a quick question did the outboard drive system have . . . .

That adventure was 37 years ago. It's a vague memory at best by now.

I see from your latest post, you seem to be determined to have a serious go at this. A few words of caution: Look around to see if you can find anyone else still doing this after having tried it. Trev tried it, I tried it and both of us don't do it any longer. See what I mean?

It's kind of like panning for gold. If you go to an area where gold has been found in the past, your chances of a little color in your pan are pretty good. If you're in an area where no man has trod before, you may be on your own and the only enjoyment will be getting wet.

That's not to discourage you, but if you're about to throw lots of $ at this, think twice. Then again, if you're at all like me, my hobby is on the same level as playing golf. It's expensive, but fun, so I do it anyway.

Cheers!

. . . . . Mac
