Hi All

For months I have been wondering why the cap mod wasn't working on my Chinese mill, in the end I just thought it must not suit that sort of mill and sort of gave up on it going down another path.

Last week I went to Fillm's place to pick up the new mill, we got talking about it and one thing lead to another, in the end he said am I sure I wired it up right, of course
I did Im not that dumb, but guess what I am, I had wired it up off the wrong circuit, now I know I'm stupid, not just wondering.
Any way I got a new set of caps off Phill for the new mill and over the weekend put it together properly, and it worked, wonders never cease.

The bad news is that I will have to buy another set of caps for the new mill.

A big thanks to Phill for pointing it out to me.

All the best

Bob

Hi Bob,

So how is the other mill giong now , it should be making power where before there was none .

The other capacitor set up you had were in series , that config was used earlier and I could not get the success from the use of Caps that way as well .

The Cap/Doubler circuit is a feather in Gordons Hat , and when used with a lower resistance, high cut-in stator works very well .

Hi Aorn318

It is listed on the front page of the forum in the projects and information " Gordons Cap Mod" read the whole article as it is very good and don't make the mistake that I did and use the circuit in the entry diagram as it doesn't work very well, you need the voltage doubler one with all the caps. Phill has a photo of the construction that makes it easier to understand I am sure if you contact him he will explain it to you.

Hi Phill

It is working good now, the wind was gusting to 5 ms today and the mill was makeing between 150 and 300 watts.

As you can see it didn't last long but it proved the point, it rained all weekend so no wind to speak of there.

All the best

Bob

Bob, I hope you are going to send it to the data logging site so we can keep track of the mill. If you need a hand with the set up just give me a call and I can talk you thrugh it. It took me a bit to get it to run but I got it going and it is good to see the results on the site. I have been off line for a bit but will be back up shortly.

Hi Amak

I plan to get it on the logger but the priority is to get it up and running at the moment, as you can see from the wind chart Im not blessed with wind like your site so may be unimpressive compared to yours.
As for the logger and the on line part it may be well beyond my capabilities with the computer to get it going, time will tell on that one.

All the best
