Well, first thing that strikes me is someone doesn't seem to understand what "vertical axis" turbines are. That looks a lot like HAWT to me :)
Also looks hellish expensive for what it is. Still, they say there's a sucker born a minute, so someone will likely fall for it. |

Hi Ross
They might be referring to the fact that it stands vertical rather than laying on the ground, I looked at the specs and it is only 1 meter in diameter so would need a gale to get it working, also looks a bit flimsy, I see it is posted by a ladder company, that may explain something.

I've seen that one for a while on ebay now. As far as I'm concerned its a HAWT, and it made me smile at the time cause what were they thinking calling it a VAWT?
Do shrouded HAWTS have increased efficiency? I'm think more about the turbine type designs where the shroud is a lot deeper making more of a wind tunnel type effect.
+1 on Ross said, its too expensive for its output.

the shroud wouldnt help at all coz its downwind, and the shroud is downwind of the downwind :p |

The shroud may create a low pressure behind the blades and augment the airflow that way but all said its a novelty for the front garden.
